  • Patent number: 6962002
Abstract: A multi-tape measuring tool has a recoil-type tape measure and a removable ruler-type measure stored in a single housing. Conventionally, a user, such as an architect or an engineer, would have to carry one retractable tape measure along with a separate smaller ruler-like measuring tool, the smaller tool being useful, for example, in more confined spaces. The measuring tool of the presenting invention provides both a retractable tape measure and a separate ruler-like measuring tool stored in a single, easily carried unit.

  • Patent number: 6702168
Abstract: A modular personal container has a stiff container shaped to receive and support a soft container in the preferred configuration of a tool belt. Both containers provide correspondingly shaped fixating and positioning features. The fixating features interlock the soft container with the stiff container. The interlocked soft container is then lowered down onto the stiff container until positioning edges of the soft container contact positioning shoulders of the stiff container. Pockets laterally protruding from the stiff container provide the positioning shoulders. A shoulder belt may be simultaneously snapped on lugs individually attached on both containers. A loose hip belt of the assembled soft container is packed away in a belt pocket recessed from a smooth rear side of the stiff container. The stiff container has a handgrip and a top lid for accessing a storage volume of the stiff container with or without the soft container being attached.

  • Patent number: 6502311
Abstract: An adjustable safety utility knife includes a elongated ergonomically shaped handle formed of two elongate shell members each having a peripheral edge and an outer, generally convex surface and an inner generally concave surface. A fastener secures the shell members together at their peripheral edges along a parting plane to form an elongated internal cavity. The handle defines a front end, back end and an intermediate portion suitable for being gripped by a user and also defines top and bottom surfaces extending along opposite sides of the shell members along the peripheral edges. The handle has a slot-like aperture at the front end substantially aligned with the parting plane and dimensioned for passage of a flat cutting blade therethrough.

  • Patent number: 6453774
Abstract: A shingle removal tool includes a cutting head attached to a handle, the cutting head having a flat leading portion on which a series of nail engaging slots are formed creating a series of sharp tapered cutting edges at a leading end and a fulcrum edge at a trailing edge. An intermediate portion integrally connects the flat leading portion with the handle. The intermediate portion is curved preferably in the form of an arc of a circle to provide a concave inner surface that imparts a curvature to the lifted shingles and propels them in the direction of advancement of the tool and away from the user. A nail removing opening is provided on the intermediate portion so that larger nails can be removed by lifting the handle which smaller nails can be sheared off by the cutting edges or lifted by the engaging slots by lowering the handle. The tool is ergonomicaly dimensioned to facilitate use by users of average height with confortable and limited movements to increase efficiency of use and to minimize fatigue.

  • Patent number: 6446344
Abstract: A safety latch for a hand tool is provided. According to the present invention, the safety latch serves to hold the two handles of a safety tool in proximity to one another so as to prevent the hand tool from pivoting, and thereby maintaining the hand tool in its closed position. A latching member is first connected to the first handle. The latching member is capable of moving from a disengaged position to an engaged position. Next, a receiving member is connected to the second handle. The receiving member receives the latching member in its engaged position. In this position, the handles of the hand tool are maintained in proximity such that the tool implements of the hand tool are maintained in the closed position. Finally, a biasing member is supplied to act against the latching member. The biasing member biases the latching member in its disengaged position.
