Publication number: 20170106963Abstract: The present invention pertains to aeronautical engineering and consists of an airborne platform for power generation through wind energy harnessing that can be built to large sizes without requiring a rigid structure of comparable dimensions and which uses both buoyancy and the aerodynamic Magnus effect for lift. The aerodynamic lift is generated in lifting bodies (1), which also contain buoyant gas. The lifting bodies (1) are stacked in a column, at the bottom of which there is a structural anchoring module (2) which also contains buoyant gas. The lifting bodies (1) and anchoring modules (2) are connected by slender structural elements which, when taken together as a whole form a non-rigid assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 30, 2016Publication date: April 20, 2017Applicant: OMNIDEA, LDA.Inventors: Tiago COSTA DUARTE PARDAL, Pedro Miguel MARQUES DOS SANTOS SILVA

Patent number: 8247912Abstract: The invention herein described consists of a system destined to harness wind resources, transferring wind power to the ground station group on the surface, the process being performed through the tensioning and unwinding of the cable group connecting the airborne group to a reeler in the said ground station group. Through the control group the resultant force vector of the aerodynamic forces tensioning the cable can be significantly altered. This change in aerodynamic forces can be done in order to create two different phases which define the cyclic movement performed by the system: a work phase, where the resultant force vector is of greater magnitude and tensions the cable, unwinding it at the ground station group and thus producing power; and a recovery phase (which requires power from the system) when the cable is rewound in order to bring the airborne group back to its original position.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2007Date of Patent: August 21, 2012Assignee: Omnidea, Lda.Inventors: Tiago Da Costa Duarte Pardal, Marco Aurelio Baptista De Almeida Freire

Publication number: 20100310815Abstract: This invention refers to a process of plastic deformation for production of thin wall revolution shells from tubular billets. The process consists in end-forming a hollow circular section billet, which can be composed of a multi- layered assembly, by using sharp edge internal domed shaped molds (1) that are guided externally by a constraining sleeve (3). This mold-sleeve tool can be assembled in a press in order to generate the pressure forces necessary for the forming process. The plastic deformation can result in thin walled spheres or cylinders with domed ends. The resultant revolution shells have two opposite (polar) circular openings. Both the shell's length as the polar hole diameter is mainly determined by the billet's initial dimensions and mold (1) domed geometry.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2009Publication date: December 9, 2010Applicant: OMNIDEA, LDA.Inventors: Luis Manuel Mendonca Alves, Paulo Antonio Firme Martins, Tiago Da Costal Duarte Pardal, Paulo Jorge Correira De Almeida, Nuno Miguel Pereira Dos Anjos Valverde
