Abstract: A CAT and a telephone are connected to a single telephone line. Considering a case in which a menu=0 and the CAT is in an automatic call incoming mode, when data transmission is made from a host computer, a line is automatically connected to the CAT, so that data transmitted from the host computer is stored in a memory in the CAT. On the other hand, when the CAT is in the idle mode, the CAT does not answer and telephone conversations can be made by the telephone connected to the telephone line.
Abstract: In a transaction processing system including a plurality of POS terminal devices (cash registers), a POS terminal group management device (cluster controller) and a sales management device (store controller), only necessary totalized data are transmitted from the POS terminal devices to the sales management device through the POS terminal group management device in accordance with totalization pattern information respectively associated with each individual POS terminal device, which information is pre-stored in the group management device, thus increasing efficiency and speed of sales information processing.
Abstract: There is provided an optical card information recording/playing back apparatus comprising: an optical system for irradiating a light beam for reproducing recorded information onto information recording tracks of the optical card on which pit trains indicative of recording information are formed; a photo detector for receiving the reflected light from the optical card and outputting a photo sensing signal; a pit correspondence signal producing circuit for detecting a peak of the photo sensing signal and producing a pit correspondence signal which changes in correspondence to a pit position on the basis of the result of the peak detection; a frequency/voltage converter for converting a frequency of the pit correspondence signal to a voltage; and a discrimination signal producing circuit for comparing a voltage output of the frequency/voltage converter with a reference value and producing an information presence/absence discrimination signal.
Abstract: A photoelectric switching apparatus comprises: a light projecting device; a photo sensing device; an objective lens having a double structure comprising an outer peripheral portion and a central portion each of which acts as a lens; and a reflecting surface to deflect the lights on the optical axis of the central portion of the objective lens to the side. An elongated portion which extends on the optical axis of the central portion of the objective lens and has the reflecting surface at the end portion thereof is formed integrally with the objective lens.
Abstract: A paper let-out apparatus is provided which includes a paper accommodating section for holding paper, such as bills, on a bottom plate such that the paper is inclined slightly from vertically standing state. The apparatus includes a fixed receivng plate and a pushing member for urging accommodated paper toward the receiving plate. The receiving plate is formed with a window, and a let-out roller is provided outside the paper accommodating section so that the roller faces the window. A friction member is provided to the let-out roller at a portion of the periphery thereof such that the friction member projects outwardly radially beyond the periphery thereof. As the let-out roller is driven to rotate, the friction member enters the paper accommodating section through the window to be in contact with the endmost or first paper sheet thereby letting out the same due to frictional force.
Abstract: An optical system for use in a flow particle detection apparatus is disclosed as having a light source for directing light onto flow partricles, a condenser lens for condensing signal light emitted from the flow particles, a photodetector for receiving signal light exiting from the condenser lens, an aperture provided between the condenser lens and the photodetector for removing undesired light, and a convergence-type collimating lens provided between the aperture and the photodetector, the aperture being disposed at a front focal position of the convergence-type collimating lens, and an exit pupil of the condenser lens and a photosensitive surface of the photodetector being located respectively at conjugate points of the convergence-type collimating lens.
Abstract: An electrical contact is provided for use in an electromagnetic relay. The electrical contact includes an outer coating containing an element of the VA Group such as antimony, arsenic, phosphorus or bismuth. Thus, the electrical contact does not serve as a catalyst for oxidizing any organic gases which may be produced during the operation of the electromagnetic relay. Accordingly, oxidation of the gases is reduced, carbon generation is suppressed and high reliability of the contact can be achieved.
Abstract: An improvement is made in an intelligent modem system which can operate selectively either in a transparent mode in which a modem circuit of the system is placed in a data communication relationship with an information processing terminal while the modem circuit is connected with a public communication line, or in an escape mode in which the modem circuit of the system is placed out of the data communication relationship from the information processing terminal to permit altering of the status of the modem circuit while the modem circuit is connected with a public communication line, by using a switch element for selectively placing the modem circuit of the system in a data communication relationship, with the information processing terminal, when a manual reception and/or transmission mode is selected, also for effecting a change-over between the transparent mode and the escape mode, when an automatic reception and/or transmission mode is selected.

Abstract: A memory of a data carrier attached to an article to be identified stores a classification code indicative of the data carrier's own communication protocol. Plural types of communication protocols are registered, in correspondence with the classification codes thereof, in the memory of a controller capable of communicating with the data carrier. Upon receiving a classification code transmitted by the data carrier, the controller selects from its memory a communication protocol indicated by the received classification code and then executes communication with the data carrier by using the selected communication protocol.
Abstract: An article identifying system comprises an ID device attached to an article to be identified and a write/read control apparatus to write and read data into and from the ID device. The control apparatus has an oscillator. The ID device has a resonance circuit. Data transmission is performed by the electromagnetic coupling of the oscillator and resonance circuit. The FSK modulation/demodulation are used in this data transmission. Preferably data is encoded by bi-phase code, f/2f code, bipolar code, or dicode code. An electric power can be also supplied from the control apparatus to the ID device by the continuous oscillation of the oscillator.
Abstract: An electromagnetic relay with an operation indicating member comprises a housing including a base and a case having a window, a switching unit including an electromagnet, terminals disposed on the base, contacts fixed to the terminals, and an operation indicating member. Terminals and contacts are heated by arc discharge during switching action of the relay and by current flowing through the terminals. The indicating member is, however, not heated because the indicating member is disposed at a location away from the heated components. The indicating member is thus prevented from being deformed by the heat generated from the contacts. Consequently, the indicating member can invariably be seen through a window in the case.

Abstract: A transducer which converts an analog input signal into an analog output signal whose level corresponds to the level of the analog input contains an A/D converter and comparison means for indicating when the value of digital A/D output exceeds or falls below certain limits and includes an AC effective value-DC conversion circuit which avoids expensive square root circuitry while providing accurate conversion. A rectified voltage and a feedback voltage are applied to a current squaring circuit whose output is applied to an averaging circuit. The squaring circuit has a first conversion means for generating a current proportional to the rectified input and a second conversion means for dividing the sum of the rectified and feedback voltages, and converting the result to a rectified current. The currents are then summed and supplied to the averaging means.
Abstract: An optical waveguide path and an optical branch path branching from the waveguide path are formed in an optical material which is variable in refractive index with the variation of temperature. A heat generator is provided in the vicinity of the branching portion of the waveguide path. The heat of the generator produces in the optical material a temperature gradient in a direction parallel with a plane including the waveguide path and the branch path. The temperature gradient gives the optical material a temperature gradient, by which a light beam propagating through the waveguide path is deflected for switching.
Abstract: A data communication system comprises a plurality of terminal units having different addresses individually and a main control assembly connected to the terminal units by transmission lines for controlling the terminal units. The terminal units include a first group of terminal units and second group of terminal units. The main control assembly controls the first group of terminal units according to a series of instructions for controlling the units in a predetermined sequence. When executing one instruction, the main control assembly performs data communication with only the one specific terminal unit relevant to the instruction. Concomitantly with the communication with the specific terminal unit, the main control assembly scans and communicates with the second group of terminal units only during periods that specified conditions exist. In addition, means are provided for communicating malfunction information between the main control assembly and the terminal units.
