  • Patent number: 7481461
Abstract: A device which is expandable to engage the interior of a tube, for example the casing of an oil well, comprises first and second tubular members in partial telescopic engagement with each other, the first tubular member having an end region which is received on the second tubular member and which is expandable radially outwardly to engage the interior of the tube. The second tubular member has tapered regions which, when forced into the end region, will cause radial expansion of the end region. The taper angle of the second tapered zone is less than the taper angle of both the first tapered zone and the third tapered zone. The fourth tapered zone preferably has a taper angle which is greater than that of the second tapered zone and less than that of the third tapered zone. In one embodiment, the tapered zones have respective taper angles of 15°, 1°, 5° and 1.25°.

  • Patent number: 7483144
Abstract: Apparatus and method are provided for chemical and biological agent sensing. The sensing apparatus includes a resonator having a resonance frequency. The resonator includes a coil of a photonic crystal fiber. The photonic crystal fiber has a solid region configured to guide a substantially single optical mode of light having an evanescent tail, a first cladding surrounding an exterior of the solid region, and a polymer coating the first cladding. The polymer has an embedded indicator. The first cladding and polymer are together configured to extend a portion of the evanescent tail into the polymer. The resonator is configured to produce a resonance shape centered at the resonance frequency. A predetermined change in the resonance shape or the free spectral range indicates a reaction of the indicator to the agent.

  • Patent number: 7481706
Abstract: A novel Keno game is disclosed wherein a player selects up to ten numbers from a field of eighty numbers to be played and these numbers are compared to twenty numbers randomly selected by the game from the same field of numbers in a manner known in the prior art. When the player places one or more conventional bets on the outcome of the game, they now also place one or more side bets as to the number of hits or matches there will be between the player selected numbers and twenty numbers selected by the game computer. The player may place side bets on more than one number of hits or matches to increase their odds of achieving side bet winnings.

  • Patent number: 7482193
Abstract: Methods of packaging devices such as MEMS devices are disclosed. An illustrative method of packaging a device in accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the present invention can include the steps of providing a substrate having an device provided therein or thereon, attaching a cap to the substrate and sealing the device within an interior cavity of the capped substrate, inserting the capped substrate into a vacuum chamber and evacuating gasses and/or contaminants contained within the interior cavity, and then injection molding a package about the capped substrate in the vacuum chamber. A number of small-sized openings disposed through the cap can be utilized to create a controlled vacuum pressure within the interior cavity of the device when the device is in the vacuum chamber, prior to injection molding the package about the capped substrate.

  • Patent number: 7483522
Abstract: A database having information sought by a consumer, a database containing consumer attributes, and a database of advertising messages are made responsive to telephone calls placed to an interactive voice response (IVR) system. Alternatively, the databases can be linked to a web site responsive to consumer input. Either system can deliver the advertising messages to the consumer. The database of consumer attributes contains information already known about the consumer that can be used to decide on which advertising message to deliver. The consumer initiates activity by calling the interactive voice response system or accessing the web site. Software identifies the consumer via the consumer-inputted identification and delivers an advertising message likely appeal to the consumer. The advertising message can include an offer to purchase a product or service. The offer can be taken during the advertising period and recorded so as to be sent to a sponsor.

  • Patent number: 7482192
Abstract: A MEMS device having a proof mass resiliently mounted above a substrate has projections formed on adjacent surfaces of the mass and substrate. The device is formed by creating a plurality of holes in the upper layer. A substance suitable for removing the intermediate layer without substantially removing the upper layer and substrate is introduced through the holes. A substance removing the upper layer, the substrate, or both, is then introduced through the holes to remove a small amount of the substrate and upper layer. Portions of the intermediate layer between the projections are then removed. The dimple structure fabricated from this process will prevent MEMS device stiction both in its final release and device operation.
