  • Patent number: 7338260
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for controlling the input electrical current to an infusion pump stepper motor based on predetermined torque requirements. The system can include a motor controller and a non-volatile memory containing expected load torque values throughout a pump cycle. Responsive to the expected load torque values, the motor controller provides the stepper motor with a varying electrical current for overcoming load torque at each point in the pumping cycle. Additional factors can also be considered for varying the electrical current. These factors include, but are not limited to, temperature, pressure, and elapsed operating time.

  • Patent number: 7338410
Abstract: Systems and methods for promoting ischemic preconditioning in individuals are provided. Ischemic preconditioning is provided by exercise treatments. The exercise treatments consist of breathing exercise regimens with breathing sequences of oxygenating and non-oxygenating phases co-ordinated with stress-relaxation cycles. The breathing sequences are designed to induce periods of ischemia. The individualized exercise treatments can induce optimal number of periods of ischemia separated by suitable intervals to provide effective ischemic preconditioning.

  • Patent number: 7338414
Abstract: An improved apparatus to enable a user to simulate skating, hereafter referred to as a skating machine, wherein the improvement involves the incorporation of a tension means connected at one end to the location of the intersection of a pedal connector bar and a crank to prevent the skating machine from locking or freezing when the pedals are at their most sideways positions. The crank is connected at its opposite end to a resistance means and the pedal connector bar is connected at its opposite end to a portion of a pedal assembly. The tension means is connected at its opposite end to a location on the skating machine frame. The crank and pedal connector bar are aligned in an almost horizontal 180 degree position when the pedals are at their extreme left or right position and the tension means prevents the machine from locking in this position.

  • Patent number: 7337853
Abstract: Method and apparatus for installing control lines and pipe into a well. The pipe-holding spider that is normally mounted on the rig floor is supportably retained in a vertically movable retainer. The retainer is adapted for controllably elevating the spider above the rig floor when the pipe slips within the spider are not engaged with the outer surface of the pipe string, thereby providing personnel access to a portion of the length of the pipe string below the elevated spider and above the rig floor. Personnel are provided with access to the pipe string for applying a fastener to secure the control line to the pipe string. The control line is supplied from above the spider and is positioned by a control line guide supported on the spider or retainer to pass through the spider outside the path of pipe gripping members within the spider.

  • Patent number: 7338254
Abstract: A turbocharger having a sliding piston assembly comprising a tubular piston disposed in the bore of the turbine housing such that the piston is axially slidable relative to the turbine housing. The piston assembly further comprises a tubular carrier inserted axially into the bore of the turbine housing surrounding the piston and fixed against axial movement relative to the turbine housing, a radially outer surface of the carrier engaging an inner surface of the bore and a radially inner surface of the carrier being slidably engaged by a radially outer surface of the piston. The carrier defines an axial split extending a length of the carrier, and the carrier is resiliently flexible. Accordingly, the axial split allows the carrier to expand and contract in diameter.

  • Patent number: 7337847
Abstract: A downhole apparatus which can be used as multi-cycle circulating subs utilized in downhole drilling operations, includes a piston (242) slidably mounted in a body between positions in which at least one aperture in the body is opened and closed. Movement of the piston (242) is controlled by a pin (86), secured to one of the body and a control member, and a control groove (52) formed in the other of the body and control member for receiving a portion of the pin. An arrangement of elements (232, 276) respectively connected to the control member and body is such as to normally resist axial movement of the control member from a first axial position to a second axial position. A spring (44) is located in a chamber for biasing the piston (242). The chamber is vented by an opening in the body.

  • Patent number: 7339332
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for a backlit display with variable luminance and chrominance. The apparatus comprises i groups of LEDs of different colors and one or more sensors optically coupled to the LEDs. The combined light produced by the LEDs is directed to a transmissive liquid crystal display, preferably through a diffusing layer. The sensors monitor the output Si of each group of LEDs. Si for each group of LEDs is multiplied by a chrominance determining parameter Ki to obtain Ki*Si which is then compared to a commanded luminance signal LC to obtain LC?Ki*Si, which difference is used to adjust the drive current to each group of LEDs to achieve LC with the desired chrominance set by Ki. By changing Ki and LC the chrominance and luminescence of the display may be varied and aging effects compensated.

  • Patent number: 7340344
Abstract: A contact free optical position sensor for an inertial reference system. The surface of an inertial sensor assembly is adapted with a coordinate encoded pattern. One or more optical sensors are adapted to generate image signals of the coordinate encoded pattern of the spherical inertial sensor assembly. A controller is coupled to receive the image signals from the optical sensors and adapted to apply a decoding algorithm to each image signal. The decoding algorithm determines the coordinates of the inertial sensor assembly images captured by each optical sensor and calculates the angular position of the inertial sensor assembly.
