  • Patent number: 6239932
Abstract: An arrangement for recording servo signals on a magnetic tape has first and second adjoining write heads respectively driven by first and second write signals. Each write signal includes a servo signal and a bias signal, the bias signals being phase displaced periodic signals which result in the magnetic tape being magnetized alternately by the first and second write heads. This provides a sharp transition in the servo signals produced from adjoining servo tracks during read-out.

  • Patent number: 6183891
Abstract: Method of manufacturing a thin-film magnetic head comprising an inductive transducing system. A non-magnetic, insulating material for forming a first insulation layer (13), on which an inductive transducing element (15) is formed, is deposited on a plane basic surface (11). Subsequently, a non-magnetic, insulating material for forming a second insulation layer (19) is deposited on the first insulation layer and the inductive transducing element formed thereon. Subsequently, material is removed in an area proximate to a head face (30) to be formed for forming an aperture extending through the first and the second insulation layer and reaching as far as the basic surface, whereafter a non-magnetic, insulating material for forming a gap layer (29) is deposited in the aperture.

  • Patent number: 6122137
Abstract: An apparatus for recording and/or reproducing information on/from an information carrier accommodated in a cartridge comprises a chassis, a cartridge room in which the cartridge can be brought, a loading mechanism by means of which the cartridge can be urged from a loading position into its operational position in the cartridge room and a drive mechanism including a drive member for driving the information carrier via a driveable device of the cartridge. By means of a switch mechanism the drive member and the driveable device are in contact with each other for driving the driveable device into a stand-by position when the information carrier in the cartridge is in the state of treat and vice versa. The switch mechanism and the loading mechanism are combined to form one single unit.

  • Patent number: 6097571
Abstract: A servosystem for controlling the position of a magnetic head with respect to the tracks of a magnetic recording medium which is relatively movable with respect to the head and has a plurality of juxtaposed tracks, including a read head for simultaneously reading information signals and servosignals stored in the tracks, the read head having a head face and a layer structure comprising parallel read units, each having a read gap and extending substantially transversely to the head face, the read gaps of two adjacent read units each extending between a magnetically conducting common pole terminating in the head face and an individual pole terminating in the head face.

  • Patent number: 6061196
Abstract: The invention relates to a comprising a magnetic tape formatted by a write head, and an apparatus comprising a magnetic head unit which is movable on a transverse direction by an actuator. The write head records the magnetic tape with a pattern of servotracks ST101-ST127 which extend in a longitudinal direction. The odd-numbered servotracks contain a first servosignal and the even-numbered servotracks contain a second servosignal Sb which is phase opposition to the first servosignal. The servotracks ST103-ST113 and ST116-ST126 have a typical width W1 and form a group of two bands of N1 servotracks which are separated by a band of N2 servotracks ST114, ST115 having a typical width W2. The magnetic tape is adapted to cooperate with an apparatus comprising eight magnetic write heads. The actuator is controlled in response to the servosignals read by the heads. The center-to-center distance between the magnetic write heads is equal to four times the typical width W1 and, moreover, it holds that:N2=2, 4, 6 etc.

  • Patent number: 6016236
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for the storage and/or reproduction of information on/from an information carrier accommodated in a cartridge. The apparatus comprises a motorized loader for the motorized loading of a cartridge. The apparatus has a mechanism by means of which the cartridge can be pulled into the apparatus with a first transmission ratio and is subsequently moved into an operational position with a second transmission ratio. The mechanism is based on the fact that the motorized loading mechanism comprises an element having two contact surfaces which are disposed at an angle relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 5933290
Abstract: An apparatus for recording an information signal on a record carrier where the record carrier has a first and a second tracking signal of specific frequencies and wavelengths. The tracking signals are recorded in respective first and second tracks which run parallel to each other in their longitudinal direction on the record carrier. The apparatus is provided With a receiver for receiving the information signal, and a converter for converting the information signal into a channel signal. The channel signal includes signal blocks of information with each signal block including a portion of the information signal. A writing head writes the channel signal in a third track on the record carrier. A reading head is adapted to read at least one of the first and second tracking signals from the first and second tracks. A generator generates a control signal from the at least first and second tracking signals read from the record carrier.
