Patent number: 7347481Abstract: A vehicle roof of a convertible with at least one front roof part, a rear roof part that is movable between a closed position over the vehicle interior and an open position in which it is stowed in a rear stowage space, and a rear window which is pivotably supported on the rear roof part. In the open position in the stowage space, the window is raised relative to the rear roof part. For improved actuation of the rear window, a holding mechanism keeps the rear window in its closed position on the rear roof part and when the rear roof part is being stowed, releases the rear window to swing relative to the rear roof part. A support is located in the stowage space and supports the rear window while the rear roof part is lowered into its stowage position.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2005Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Assignee: Open Air Systems GmbHInventors: Thomas Schuett, Fritz Wegener

Patent number: 7264307Abstract: A motor vehicle component with a guide rail structure (15) which is located at least partially on a sectional part (20) which forms the bearing structure of the vehicle component. To simplify the guide rail structure (15) and make it cheaper, it is provided that the sectional part (20) forms only one part (22) of the guide rail structure (15) and the other part (32) of the guide rail structure (15) is formed by a second sectional part (30) which can be connected to the first sectional part (20). The divided execution makes it possible to form, much more easily, the guideways (24, 25, 26; 33, 34) and cable channels (91) which must otherwise be produced in a complex manner as undercut sectional parts.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2005Date of Patent: September 4, 2007Assignee: Open Air Systems GmbHInventors: Thomas Betzl, Walter Schaetzler

Patent number: 7044539Abstract: A motor vehicle roof is provided which includes a cover which can be moved into a raised position at its rear edge by a carriage which can be moved along guide rails in interaction with a cover carrier connected to the cover via a crank arrangement. The crank arrangement has at least one crank path and at least one sliding element which fits into the crank arrangement. For simple and reliable support of the cover in all phases, the crank arrangement preferably includes at least two crank paths and two sliding elements, wherein the crank paths are shaped and arranged such that when the carriage moves, a first sliding element assumes support of the cover in the direction of the height of the vehicle roof (Z-direction), while a second sliding element applies support in the lengthwise direction of the vehicle (X-direction). As the carriage continues to be displaced, a reversal of the supporting action of the two sliding elements occurs.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2004Date of Patent: May 16, 2006Assignee: Open Air Systems GmbHInventors: Wolfgang Ettl, Peter Reihl, Adam Wagner, Niko Graeter

Patent number: 7029053Abstract: A roof for a convertible vehicle includes first and second roof parts which can be moved by a bearing mechanism between a closed position which covers an interior of the vehicle and a lowered position in a rear roof deposition space which exposes the vchicle interior. A locking device is provided for interlocking of the first and second roof parts in the closed position of the roof. The locking device has a first closing unit for mutual interlocking of the first and second roof parts and which is coupled to a drive mechanism. The first closing unit has a coupling mechanism to couple to a second closing unit which acts on one of the first and second roof parts and which interlocks the acted upon roof part to a third roof part or to a body part.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2003Date of Patent: April 18, 2006Assignee: Open Air Systems GmbHInventors: Alexander Heller, Burkhard Reinsch

Patent number: 6948762Abstract: A stowage space cover of a convertible with a roof (2) which can be opened and lowered into a rear stowage space (3), the stowage space cover (8) containing two elements (9, 10) which are joined to one another, the first element (9) being pivotally supported on the front on the body by means of a pivot bearing (13, 14) so as to pivot up at its rear edge (20), the second element (10) being pivotally supported on the first element (9) so that its front edge (19) can be pivoted up out of its closed position, in which it covers a recess of the first element (9) for stowing of the roof, and can be pivoted up jointly with the first element (9) as the trunk lid. To improve the sequence of movements of the cover, the pivoting support (13, 14) of the first element (9) forms a movable pivoting axis.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2003Date of Patent: September 27, 2005Assignee: Open Air Systems GmbHInventor: Michael Antreich

Patent number: 6863333Abstract: A convertible roof is provided which includes a shelf which can be lowered into a rear stowage space of a convertible. The shelf is movably supported as it is assigned to a rear roof part of the lowerable roof and can be adjusted by an adjustment device between an operating position with the roof closed and a lowered position in which it is moved against the inside of the rear part of the roof which has been lowered into the stowage space, thereby providing space-saving stowage of the roof. The shelf has two opposing outer side areas which can be swiveled relative to a middle part of the shelf.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2003Date of Patent: March 8, 2005Assignee: Open Air Systems GmbHInventors: Alexander Heller, Burkhard Reinsch
