Method for correcting patient motion when obtaining retina volume using optical coherence tomography
Patent number: 7997729Abstract: A computer-implemented method of correcting for motion of a sample during OCT imaging obtains a series of cross-sectional volume scans through the sample at different positions on a first coordinate axis, obtains at least two cross-sectional alignment scans in planes intersecting said volume scans at an angle, and stores the alignment scans and the volume scans in memory. The alignment scans are matched to the volume scans at lines of intersection thereof to determine the relative displacement of the volume scans to the sample due to sample motion. The relative displacement is used to correct for motion of the sample between successive volume scans.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2008Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: OTI Ophthalmic Technologies Inc.Inventors: Duncan McLean, Justin Pedro, Clive Hayward -

Patent number: 7841719Abstract: A method of determining the external three dimensional external contour of a curved object in one step, which produces and processes a single composite en-face OCT image (a C-scan), which involves generating and processing a set of two dimensional image contours of the object in different image planes using a plurality of optical path lengths in an OCT system with all such contours present in the composite en-face OCT image. The multiple path lengths are generated using a multiple delay element in bulk or in fiber inserted in the path from the source to the OCT system or in one of the OCT arms. The image planes have a known spatial relationship with each other. The three dimensional external contour of the curved object is computed from the two dimensional contours in the composite en-face OCT image and the known spatial relationship between the image planes.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2008Date of Patent: November 30, 2010Assignee: OTI Ophthalmic Technologies IncInventor: Adrian G.
