Abstract: Eyeglasses of the type which permit interchanging of framed lenses are disclosed which employ a lens assembly including a pair of lenses mounted in a frame. The frame, in turn, is releasably mounted to a backing support which supports the upper portion of the frame and includes a retaining clip pivotally mounted between an open position permitting easy mounting of the lens assembly, and a second closed position which maintains engagement between the lens and backing assemblies.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a composite, integral polymeric spectacle part. The spectacle part includes a first polymer member and a second polymer member. The polymer members are selected to provide desired characteristics for the spectacle part at the location of the spectacle part where the member is incorporated. In a particular embodiment, it is desirable that the first polymeric member be formed from an elastomeric polymer and that the second member be a substantially rigid polymer. The rigid polymer is preferably formed from a thermosetting polymer having a higher melting temperature than the first elastomeric member. The second rigid member is bound to the first polymer member by heat fusion during an injection molding process.In the method of the invention for forming a composite, integral, polymeric spectacle part, a first polymer member is formed into a shape conforming to a portion of the cavity of an injection mold.

Abstract: Ski goggles are provided having circuitry for heating the lens by means of at least one solar cell held by the headband of the goggles to prevent or eliminate fogging and condensation on the surface of the lens of the goggles facing the wearer.

Abstract: An eyeglass assembly includes a pair of lenses with surrounding lens frames interconnected by bridges joining the lens frames together and cooperating therewith to form an opening for receiving a portion of the wearer's nose. Support means are provided on each lens frame below the bridge for engaging the wearer's nose for additional support. The nose supports include first and second legs formed from a unitary strip of resilient material bent at its mid-portion so that the two legs extend in generally the same direction from an intermediate fold portion. The two legs are resiliently movable toward and away from each other, and a first leg is joined to the lens frame so as to be resiliently movable with respect thereto. The legs may extend in generally upward or downward directions, that is, generally toward and away from the bridge member. The second legs are located adjacent the nose-receiving opening and carry nose-engaging surfaces.

Abstract: An eyeglass frame includes ring-like lens mounting portions joined together by a bridge defining a medial cavity. A nose engaging piece has nose engaging pad portions joined together by an intermediate bight portion and also includes means for biasing the nose pad portions away from each other. A pair of opposed hinged arms are interconnected by interlocking hinge members disposed in the medial cavity of the bridge member and free ends of the arms are engaged with the nose engaging pad portions. Deflection of one nose pad portion results in a similar, complementary deflection of the other nose pad portion, thus providing a conformance to the shape of a wearer's nose which, in combination with the bias force of the saddle piece, provide a greatly improved wearing comfort.

The lens-mounting portions are configured to engage the peripheral edge of the lens and include several prongs. The peripheral edge of the lenses include prong-receiving recesses which position the lenses relative to the frame to provide secure mounting thereto. The lens-mounting portions of the frame also include a separable connection wherein a mounting lug mounted to one part of the section is received in a socket formed at an end of an opposing section. The separable connection allows the lens-mounting portions to open, facilitating mounting and removal of the lenses, and close so as to provide secure mounting of the lens relative to the frame.

Abstract: The exchangeable lens eyeglasses of the present invention include a frame including a front preferably formed as a one-piece molded plastic part having a pair of spaced rims each having an upper end and a lower end with a bridge interconnecting the rims. The bridge defines an opening. The eyeglasses further include a pair of lenses with each lens supported by a corresponding rim. Each rim has an abutment surface disposed on one side of its lens and a support rib extending on the other side of its lens and cooperating with the abutment surface to seat that lens. The support rib is discontinuous between the lower end the upper end of its rim adjacent the bridge. The eyeglasses further include a retainer preferably formed as a one-piece molded plastic part which is releasably held by the front and has a component received in the opening. The retainer overlaps both lenses and cooperates with the abutment surface of the rims to capture the lenses.
