Abstract: A mobile handset for use in a mobile communications system includes a user interface, a radio communications front end, a radio transceiving antenna, and a browser application to interpret a multimedia document received from a remote server. The browser application recognizes textual presentation markup tags in the document and presents text to a user in accordance with the markup tags. The browser application recognizes a standard set of document-independent local library file markup tags in the document, and stores a standard set of non-textual local library files corresponding to the local library file markup tags. The browser application further presents content provided by one of the local library files via the user interface in response to the recognition of one of the local library file markup tags in the document.

Abstract: Subscribers in a mobile communications system are provided with a bundle of call time each billing period, against which standard call types are rated. If, at the end of one billing period, a portion of the bundle for that billing period remains, the rating system associates the remaining portion with a bundle provided for the forthcoming billing period. In one embodiment, rating is interrupted whilst any remaining portions of the previous bundles are added to the newly-created bundles for the next period. In other embodiments, the rating system refers both to the current bundle and to a previous bundle when rating standard call types.

Abstract: The cutting device comprises a first block or ram, and a second block or receptacle. The ram has a channel that extends along its longitudinal length, the channel is sized and configured to accept at least a portion of a cutting blade. The receptacle has a hollow sized and configured to accept at least a portion of the ram. The blade is arranged within the hollow and extends from the receptacle into the hollow and toward the ram. The blade is advantageously recessed within the ram. In one embodiment, the ram is attached to a drive coupled to a sewing machine, and the receptacle is attached to the sewing machine. The ram is moveable between a retracted position, in which the ram is separated from the receptacle, and an extended position, in which at least a portion of the ram is housed within the receptacle.

Abstract: A SIM for a mobile station used in a GSM mobile communications system the SIM operating system being adapted to perform data coding format conversion for data items stored in the SIM and transmitted to the mobile station. This ensures that the SIM is able to receive, and present, data items in the required standard format at the interface between the mobile station and the SIM, while allowing the data items to be stored in a compressed format in the SIM memory, thereby increasing the perceived storage capacity of the SIM.

Abstract: A belt having an elongate band that is wrappable around the body of a wearer, the band having first and second end portions, the first and second end portions respectively being provided with first and second parts of a connection for detachable and adjustable connection of the first end portion to the second end portion with the band wrapped around the body of the wearer, wherein the band is made of a synthetic modelling material.

Abstract: An antenna arrangement for use in a cellular mobile radio system, consisting of four receiving antenna arrays grouped into two branches (2, 4). The first branch consists of an antenna array (6) receiving vertically polarized signals, located adjacent an antenna array (8) receiving horizontally polarized signals. The second branch (4) consists of a similar arrangement (10, 12) spaced from the first branch to provide space diversity of the received signals. When a signal is received, the outputs from all four antenna arrays (6, 9, 10, 12) are fed to a combiner arrangement (14, 16, 18) to produce a space-diversity and polarization-diversity gain.

Abstract: A portable oxygen delivery system supplies oxygen during prolonged transport via ambulance or helicopter to patients who are critically ill and in need of ventilatory support. The system includes two sets of oxygen tanks delivering oxygen to a manifold having two valve regulators. Oxygen flows from the first set of oxygen tanks through the first valve regulator, which remains open while the second valve regulator is closed, to the patient's portable ventilator. When the pressure from the first set of tanks drops below a given threshold, the first valve regulator closes and the second valve regulator opens, allowing oxygen to flow from the second set of oxygen tanks through the second valve regulator to the patient's ventilator. This system thereby maintains a continuous flow of oxygen to the patient's ventilator.

Abstract: A telecommunications system including a plurality of mobile telephones has a switch network including: data storage units (HLR) for storing connection data relating to respective mobile telephones; a register (15) for storing associations between data storage units and respective identification codes; inputs for inputting an identification code; and a switch unit (30, 31) for interrogating the register (15) to permit determination of the data storage unit (HLR) associated with that identification code. The switch network then uses the connection data stored by the data storage unit (HLR) to form a telecommunication link with the corresponding mobile telephone. The register unit (15) has two states. In a first state the register unit (15) and switch unit (30, 31) determine the data storage unit (HLR) associated with the input identification code. In a second state, the register unit (15) is linked to a routing unit (40).

Abstract: A bag dispenser for supporting and dispensing merchandise bags from bag packs comprises an intermediate portion and two end portions. Intermediate and end bag engaging members extend outwardly from the intermediate and end portions, respectively, and are sized for insertion through an aperture of the bag pack. The dispenser also includes a bag support member disposed below the bag engaging members for supporting the bag through a handle hole, so that the bag is supported during loading and does not tear from the header of the bag pack.

Abstract: An air assisted hem former for folding a margin of a foldable material which uses at least one stream of air to urge margin material through a folded cavity. The folded cavity and airflow moves the margin toward a sewing needle, directs the margin material to a proper stitching position and maintain the stitching position until the needle has stitched the hem. Two similarly formed hem formers can be mounted on opposing sides of a sewing needle to urge, direct and maintain the margin material prior to stitching of a hem.

Abstract: An arm-mounter mechanism affording users almost unlimited mobility, alternately adaptable to personal computers, digital assistants, cellular phones, cameras, audio recorders, barcode scanners, multimedia remote controls, MIDI controllers, gaming devices and others. One embodiment, utilized with speech recognition technology, provides monitor and/or keys on an arm-mounted first element movable attached to allow rotation, swiveling and/or tilting of this element relative to the arm. A second, optional element rests on projections from the arm-mounting mechanism, allowing interface with the hand of the device-bearing arm. Data processing, transmission, reception and storage equipment typically resides within the first element. The second element may be retractable to fit under sleeve. Another embodiment is a laptop PC reconfigurable for arm use. An alternative mechanism arm-mounts pre-existing devices.

Abstract: A billing center for a mobile communication system is provided which allows groups of subscribers sharing a single account to be identified both during the call rating procedure, during which call detail records are related to add a charge to the call detail record, and/or to add a usage of a pre-paid usage allocation to be added to the call detail records, and during the production of billing details at the end of the billing period. A relational database holds usage allocation records which pertain either to a single subscriber, or to a group of subscribers. The group of subscribers may consist of any of 2 to 50, or more, subscribers, depending on the subscription type held by the group.

Abstract: A drainfield pipe having a rib radially extending from its wall is supported by a device which includes a pair of elongated anchor members generally parallel to each other and separated for receiving the drainfield pipe therebetween and suspending the pipe from its rib. The elongated anchor members penetrate a grade surface for holding the anchor members upright while supporting the pipe rib within a clamp above the grade surface. The clamp is attached to the anchor member upper portion and holds the rib between clamp jaws. Installing drainfield pipe by supporting the pipe from the radially extending rib permits the pipe to be held at desired positions for introduction of aggregate into an absorption area containing the drainfield pipe without displacing the connected pipe their desired location. With the rib positioned upward and away from the drainfield surface, the support devices holding the pipe are removed after aggregate is placed within the drainfield and around the pipe without displacing the pipe.

Abstract: A method and system for cleaning an underwater floor is disclosed. The method includes: submerging a self-propelled underwater vehicle into a body of water, such as a basin, for example; directing the vehicle to traverse the basin floor; suctioning sediment particles from the basin floor as the vehicle traverses the floor; and providing a suction force to the vehicle. In one embodiment, the act of suctioning includes removing substantial amounts of particles smaller than a predetermined size from the floor while not removing substantial amounts of particles larger than the predetermined size from the floor. The system includes: the submersible, self-propelled vehicle for traversing the underwater floor; a first vacuum hood, coupled to the vehicle, for suctioning sediment particles from the underwater floor; and a first pump, coupled to the hood, for providing a suction force to the hood.

Abstract: A nozzle for a container including an internal ball check valve along with an o-ring sealing structure and angled insertion limitation stops to cooperate with a receptacle to permit the insertion of the nozzle and container only a predetermined distance, while providing for such insertion to effect an opening of the ball check valve, and appropriate sealing o-rings are provided to prevent leakage of the liquid past the nozzle.
