Abstract: A flexible light engine, comprising insulating lower and upper laminate sheets; first and second electrically conductive metallic bus bars between the sheets; a plurality of electrically conductive metallic conductors between the sheets being disposed laterally between the bus bars, wherein each conductor defines two metallic contacts exposed in register with adjacent perforations in the perforated upper sheet; wherein each of the bus bars further comprises respective at least two interconnectors, and wherein the conductors are connected to respective interconnectors to define at least two series circuits and connectable in parallel between the bus bars, wherein each of the series circuits comprises a subset of the plurality of metallic conductors; and a plurality of LEDs attached to the contacts defining at least two series LED strings and connected in parallel between the bus bars, each said LED string comprising a plurality of LEDs.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a lamp ballast having a DC-DC converter with first and second MOSFETs acting as switches alternately connecting a DC power source to a power transformer, with an output of the power transformer being connected to a DC-AC inverter driving the lamp. The first and second MOSFETs in the DC-DC converter are alternately opened and closed at a frequency that is swept repeatedly between predetermined minimum and maximum frequencies. A microcontroller-based feedback element determines instantaneous power consumption by the lamp and controls the MOSFETs through a pulse width modulator to continuously adjust a duty cycle of signals driving gates of the MOSFETs to maintain a desired level of power consumption.

Abstract: An improvement in a mercury vapor discharge lamp having an envelope of light-transmitting vitreous material containing an inert starting gas and a quantity of elemental mercury at least in part convertible to soluble mercury, and first and second electrodes located within the envelope for an arc discharge therebetween. The improvement comprises an effective amount of a soluble copper-containing compound in combination with an effective amount of a selected one of a group of materials consisting of a soluble chloride, a soluble bromide, a soluble nonmetallic iron-containing compound, and a soluble nonmetallic manganese-containing compound. The copper-containing compound and the material in combination, when the lamp is pulverized into granules and subjected to a suitable aqueous acid solution, produce a concentration of extracted mercury of less than 0.2 mg/l of the aqueous solution.
