  • Patent number: 4304149
Abstract: An end fitting is disclosed for mounting a brake cable assembly in an opening contained in a fixed support, which brake cable assembly includes an inner cable member and a tubular concentrically arranged outer sheath member. The fitting includes a tubular body member formed of synthetic plastic material and containing a longitudinal through bore for receiving the inner cable member. At one end, a first counterbore is provided for receiving one end of the outer sheath member, annular seal means being provided at the other end of the body member for concentric engagement with the periphery of the inner cable member. In one embodiment, the annular seal means has a tubular configuration, and in another embodiment, the seal means comprises an O-ring. Convergent annular scraper means may be provided at the aforementioned other body member end for scraping engagement with the periphery of the inner cable member.

  • Patent number: 4271718
Abstract: A brake cable operating lever is disclosed including a device for adjusting the cable tension which is produced when the operating lever is in the brake-on position, characterized in that the rotary tension adjusting screw (36) which extends axially of the operating lever includes intermediate its ends an annular collar portion (36a) that is rotatably supported by an abutment shoulder (20f) on the operating lever (20), whereby the apparatus remains operable even if the manual operating knob (38) were to be removed from the screw member. An internal friction producing device (40) is provided for restricting rotation of the screw member about its axis.

  • Patent number: 4270406
Abstract: A parking brake operating mechanism is disclosed which includes a ratchet link and an operating lever pivotally connected with a bracket housing so as to effect a mechanical advantage when displacing the brake cable operating pin in the brake-engaged direction. The ratchet link is pivotally connected intermediate its ends with the housing by a first pivot axis, and the operating lever is pivotally connected intermediate its ends with one end of the ratchet link by a second pivot axis, one end of the operating lever being connected with the pin that operates the parking brake cable. The first and second pivot axes are arranged generally on opposite sides of the brake cable pin, the distance between said axes being greater than the distance between the pin axis and the first axis, thereby to effect the desired mechanical advantage. A pawl cooperates with ratchet teeth on the ratchet link to normally prevent pivotal movement thereof in the brake-released direction.

  • Patent number: 4245139
Abstract: A brake cable switch is disclosed for indicating when a cable is tensioned at or beyond a predetermined value, comprising a hollow rectangular housing containing an hermetically sealed chamber, said housing including a flexible top wall having a convex outer surface the axis of which extends longitudinally along the housing, said top wall being biased away from the housing bottom wall, a pair of switch contacts mounted in the chamber for operation between a normal first electrical condition and a second electrical condition, and a pair of fastener devices arranged at opposite ends of the housing for mounting the housing on an untensioned brake cable.
