Patent number: 5281224Abstract: A jig is detachably secured to the proximal end of an installed intramedullary nail having a transverse bolt hole near the distal end of the nail. The jig comprises an offsetting arm which so mounts an elongate template as to be movable in a geometric plane substantially parallel to the nail. A guide bore near the distal end of the template is on an axis perpendicular to the geometric plane. When the jig is chucked to the nail, the axis of the guide bore of the template is parallel to the axis of the bolt hole of the nail, and both the guide-bore axis and the bolt-hole axis are at identical distance from the offsetting arm. The distal end of the template is adapted to removably mount a metal-detector establishing a magnetic-field about a directional axis, such that the metal-detector can be selectively moved or positioned on one and then the other side of a central position in which the template is strictly parallel to the nail.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1993Date of Patent: January 25, 1994Assignee: Orthofix S.r.l.Inventors: Giovanni Faccioli, Stefano Rossi

Patent number: 4946179Abstract: The invention is a self-gradually locking chuck for drills and similar devices. It is particularly suitable for portable drills in surgical use. The chuck has a cylindrical sleeve that can be fixed axially to the shaft of a drill and predominantly tapering ferrule with lobes. The ferrule can be axially engaged with the sleeve. Means for centering a tool and at least one spring are located within a hollow space in the sleeve. The chuck also has a mounting with a passage and holes for housing jaws. The mounting and the ferrule are axially movable with respect to each other and the sleeve. Jaws, located in the holes and urged toward the axis of the chuck by the lobes, hold a tool that has been inserted between the jaws. The chuck further has an annular ring which can be screwed onto an externally threaded portion of the mounting projecting from the ferrule. The annular ring serves to engage the tool in a locked condition to prevent accidental release of the tool by the chuck.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1989Date of Patent: August 7, 1990Assignee: Orthofix S.r.l.Inventors: Giovanni De Bastiani, Giovanni Faccioli, Roberto Aldegheri, Lodovico R.
