Patent number: 12208019Abstract: An interbody device configured for insertion between adjacent vertebrae includes a body comprising and exterior surface and an interior surface defining a cavity. The body comprises a visualization window extending between the exterior surface and the interior surface, where the visualization window comprises a lattice of radiopaque structures. A density of the lattice in a central region of the visualization window is less than in the density of the lattice in an outer region of the visualization window such that the visualization window is radiolucent through the central region.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2023Date of Patent: January 28, 2025Assignee: Orthofix US LLCInventors: Samuel Fang, Easton Braithwaite, Brian Dewillie

Patent number: 12171672Abstract: A bone graft loading device includes a syringe comprising a nozzle at a distal portion of the syringe and an opening at a proximal portion of the syringe, and a plunger configured to force bone graft material from the reservoir through the nozzle. The plunger comprises a plunger body positioned at least partially within the syringe and defining a lumen. A tamp is positioned within the lumen of the plunger body and is configured to protrude distally of the plunger through the nozzle. The plunger mates with an inner wall of the syringe and the tamp to block passage of the bone graft material into the lumen of the plunger body. The plunger can be rotated to guide the bone graft material into the cannula, and the tamp can be periodically actuated to clear clogs that form at or near the nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2023Date of Patent: December 24, 2024Assignee: Orthofix US LLCInventor: Stephen Vincent Blake

Patent number: 11806053Abstract: Vertebral retaining devices and instruments are provided. A retaining device may include a first monolithic body having a first handle and first jaw pivotably coupled to a second monolithic body having a second handle and a second jaw. The first body and the second body may be pivotably coupled to one another at an intermediate region between the respective handles and jaws. In some aspects, the first and second bodies may be polymeric. The first jaw and second jaw may be shaped to provide an access region between the first jaw and the second jaw when the retaining device is coupled to bone fasteners attached to the vertebrae. The retaining device may include a locking assembly coupled to the first handle and the second handle, and configured to retain the first jaw and the second jaw in a spaced relationship relative to one another.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2022Date of Patent: November 7, 2023Assignee: Orthofix US LLCInventors: Alain Paris, Lukas Glutz, David Chenaux, Nick Koske

Patent number: 11576709Abstract: A bone fixation system comprises a first fastener configured to anchor into a first vertebrae, a second fastener configured to anchor into a second vertebrae, and a set screw to retain the second fastener to the first fastener. The first fastener includes a shaft extending along a longitudinal axis and a head. The shaft includes a first cylindrical body. The head of the first fastener includes a second cylindrical body defining a passageway having an interior surface. The passageway defines a longitudinal axis that is different than the longitudinal axis of the shaft. The first cylindrical body of the shaft and the second cylindrical body of the head are angled relative to each other. A head of the second fastener is configured to engage the interior surface of the passageway of the head of the first fastener. The set screw retains the head of the second fastener in the passageway.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2022Date of Patent: February 14, 2023Assignee: Orthofix US LLCInventors: Richard G. Fessler, Jon C. Patent number: 11235144Abstract: A system and method for pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) tissue engineering enhances musculoskeletal tissue stimulation. A tissue engineering device may include both low and high pulse frequency signal generation components that may alternatively drive one or more coils to generate PEMFs. These PEMFs may be applied to bone tissue, tendons, ligaments, and/or cartilage. A prescribed treatment regimen using the tissue engineering device may include a first period of time where a first pulse frequency is used in treatment that supports tissue proliferation followed by a second period of time where a second pulse frequency (less than the first pulse frequency) is used in treatment that supports tissue differentiation. A treatment regimen may also include, with the frequency characteristic, applying a slew rate to the pulse characteristics that is on the order of around 30 to 100 Tesla per second to drive tissue differentiation in a targeted manner.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2020Date of Patent: February 1, 2022Assignee: ORTHOFIX US LLCInventors: James T.
