  • Patent number: 4449098
Abstract: An arrangement for detecting an underground continuous length item includes an electrically conductive wire constituted by covering a flexible metallic core wire with an outer coating layer made of a flexible and electrically conductive high polymeric organic material. The electrically conductive wire is positioned under the ground along the underground continuous length item and is supplied with a high frequency current. Electromagnetic waves are emitted from the wire therefrom for detecting the location of the underground continuous length item located underground. Since electric current is propagated through the ground via the coating layer of the wire upon supply of high frequency power to the wire, whereby it becomes possible to detect from the ground surface the location of the continuous length item located underground in the case where the wire is cut.

  • Patent number: 4440194
Abstract: A moving body comprises two members interconnected by a flexible linear member and each symmetrical with respect to a plane perpendicular to the direction of its movement through a pipe. The moving members are congruent with each other and are preferably made of an elastic material. Work is performed in the interior of pipes, for example, for lining with use of the moving body by applying a fluid pressure to the back side of the body. As a preferred example of lining work, the moving body is used for reforming an outworn underground pipe by lining the pipe with a resin layer having strength to withstand an external pressure of at least about 0.1 kg/cm.sup.2 G per meter of the depth at which the pipe is laid underground. The pipe is used as a frame for this operation.

  • Patent number: 4397890
Abstract: A method of lining a large pipe and small pipes branching therefrom with a seal composition, in which the pipes are lined as connected together, and the large pipe or the small pipes are lined first. The portion of the seal composition forced into the small pipes when the large pipe is lined with use of a running body is returned into the large pipe again and is subsequently applied, without being discharged from the system, to the lining layer of the large pipe as a top coat with use of a running body having a slightly smaller diameter than the running body. When one of the pipes has a greatly bent portion, a running body is used which comprises two members each shaped symmetrically, congruent with each other and interconnected by a flexible linear member.

  • Patent number: 4294706
Abstract: This invention relates to a process by which waste water containing ammonia or chemically oxidizable substances (hereinafter referred to as "COD components"), suspended solids, etc. in addition to ammonia is subjected to wet oxidation in the presence of a catalyst to convert these pollutants to nitrogen, carbon dioxide, water and the like and to thereby render the waste water harmless.According to this invention, the ammonia contained in the waste water includes ammonium compounds which liberate ammonium ions when dissociated in water. The COD components include phenol, cyanides, thiocyanates, oils, thiosulfuric acid, sulfurous acid, sulfides, nitrous acid, etc.

  • Patent number: 4269714
Abstract: An activated sludge treatment method of waste water which comprises (a) the step of micronizing as far as possible the sludge in the waste water containing the BOD component to a degree not to have the cells of the microorganisms therein broken or destroyed and adsorbing the BOD component to the micronized sludge, and (b) the step of oxidizing the BOD component adsorbed to the sludge by blowing in an oxygen-containing gas and flocculating the sludge. By this method, the treatment of waste water is accomplished with a shortened residence time of the waste water in an installation for the treatment and with the production of excess sludge in a considerably reduced amount.

Abstract: Gases containing hydrogen cyanide, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide are purified by first washing the gas with a suspension of solid sulfur to fix the hydrogen cyanide as ammonium thiocyanate and ammonium thiosulfate. The resulting suspension is then subjected to a wet-oxidation wherein the thiosulfate and a part of the thiocyanate is converted into sulfuric acid and ammonium sulfate afterwhich the resulting liquid containing unreacted thiocyanate is decomposed into an ammonium salt and is recovered from the oxidation and decomposition steps.
