Publication number: 20160022370Abstract: Implementations described and claimed herein provide systems and methods for generating a smooth mating surface model defining a mating surface of a customized arthroplasty jig. In one implementation, sagittal slices of a volumetric image of a patient bone are segmented with segmentation splines. An anatomically accurate model of the patient bone is generated from the segmentation splines. The anatomically accurate model includes anatomically accurate segmentation splines. The anatomically accurate segmentation splines are transformed into mating surface contours. Any inadequate segments of the mating surface contours are modified to obtain modified mating surface contours. A mating surface model of the patient bone is generated based on the mating surface contours and the modified mating surface contours. Three-dimensional cross-sections of the mating surface model are smoothed to generate the smooth mating surface model.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 17, 2014Publication date: January 28, 2016Applicant: OtisMed CorporationInventors: Elena I. Publication number: 20150342623Abstract: A method and system for performing a total joint arthroplasty procedure on a patient's damaged bone region. A CT image or other suitable image is formed of the damaged bone surfaces, and location coordinate values (xn,yn,zn) are determined for a selected sequence of bone surface locations using the CT image data. A mathematical model z=f(x,y) of a surface that accurately matches the bone surface coordinates at the selected bone spice locations, or matches surface normal vector components at selected bone surface locations, is determined. The model provides a production file from which a cutting jig and an implant device (optional), each patient-specific and having controllable alignment, are fabricated for the damaged bone by automated processing.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 12, 2015Publication date: December 3, 2015Applicant: OTISMED CORPORATIONInventors: Ilwhan Park, Lacerial Pearson, Stephen M.
