Abstract: The invention relates to zirconium-based alloys and methods for manufacturing thereof and may be used in nuclear power engineering. The invention, as claimed, solves the task of obtaining a zirconium-based alloy used for manufacturing fuel rods for the nuclear reactor core, which possess improved engineering and operational properties. The said zirconium-based alloy contains its components in the following weight percent ratio: niobium—0.9-1.1, oxygen—0.05-0.09, zirconium—the rest, and has the structure consisting of alpha-zirconium with oxygen irregularity zones not exceeding 30 nanometers, zirconium sub-oxide of non-stoichiometric composition, and beta-niobium. The inventive method of manufacturing the said alloy includes making stock of zirconium-containing material and niobium pentoxide as oxygen-containing and niobium-containing materials, stock treatment and manufacturing an ingot having the above composition.

  • Patent number: 7608318
Abstract: The invention can be defined in its most general form as a building unit, namely the sandwich panel with light core from corrugated sheet material in the form of zigzag crimp, and can be used in aircraft construction, as well as in shipbuilding and construction. Making use of the claimed invention will improve the weight efficiency, the strength and the manufacturability of the panel. The beneficial effect is attained due to the fact that the plane slanting ridges are connected along the protrusion and recess zigzag lines by means of curvilinear parts, whose radius is not less than the core material thickness, whereby along said parts is a line perforation enabling the adhesive material to get into the holes of the perforation in the course of core-skins assembling.

Abstract: This invention relates to nuclear engineering and may be used in structures of nuclear fuel assemblies, especially those used in PWR and BWR nuclear reactors. A fuel assembly comprises spacing grids comprising cells formed by orthogonal crossing plates. An insertable spacing element is installed in each cell, which is designed for fixing the fuel rod passing through the cell. In the spacing grids that are arranged between the first spacing grid and the last spacing grid downstream the coolant flow at least some cells, through which the fuel rods pass, are provided with deflectors designed for mixing the coolant flow. The insertable spacing element comprises a shell, which has a cross-section in the form of an octagon formed by four facets that are rounded and convex in the direction from the center of said element and by four facets located therebetween that are shaped and concave toward the center of the said element.

  • Patent number: 7458802
Abstract: The invention can be defined in its most general form as a device for sheet material corrugation by means of bending and can be applied in the devices for production of single curvature folded core used in production of aircraft and craft curvilinear panels. The invention has for its object to broaden the technological capabilities. For that the mandrel is made in the form of a set of alternating rows of plane elements (4, 6, 7) made in the form of trapeziums (4) and isosceles triangles (6, 7) fixed on the flexible material of the base (5) forming thus the gap-pivots between the elements. At the same time the bases of the triangular elements (6, 7) face each other in pairs along the bending lines while said bending lines correspond to the protrusions lines of the core folded structure. The base of the triangular elements (6, 7) is the function of the folded core block curvature radius and the geometrical parameters of the zigzag crimp structure.

  • Publication number: 20080205579
Abstract: The invention relates to nuclear engineering and can be used for fuel clusters of nuclear reactors, for distancing and fixing fuel elements, in particular in the fuel clusters of PWR and BWR reactors. The inventive distance lattice comprises cells which are used for mounting the fuel elements or guide channels and are formed by perpendicular crossing plates. Bent blades for mixing a coolant are embodied on the plate edges at the output of said coolant. Each cell is provided with an insertable distancing element for fixing the fuel element. Said invention makes it possible to increase the turning rigidity of the cells and the stability thereof, to simultaneously reduce the size of the fixation of the fuel elements or the guiding channels in the cells and to decrease the hydraulic resistance of the lattice.

  • Patent number: 6912111
Abstract: The inventive spark arrester comprises an odd number of series-connected spark units forming a chain, with each spark units comprising at least one discharge gap. In order to increase the reliability of protection of electric installation components having a flat voltage—time characteristic by ensuring a low discharge level and a fast response of the arrester, the output of each even spark unit is connected via a resistor to a clamp connecting the arrester to the protected components subjected to a high potential, while the output of each odd spark unit, except the last one, is connected via another resistor to another clamp connecting the arrester to the protected components subjected to a low potential. Preferred embodiments of the arrester promote a generation of a long surface discharge along a surface of tubular body made of a solid dielectric, said body being common for all spark units constituting the arrester.
