Abstract: An apparatus for transporting a load, in particular a stairlift, includes a frame displaceable along a rail, a load carrier rotationally mounted on the frame for rotation around a horizontal axis, an adjusting motor for rotating the load carrier relative to the frame around the horizontal axis, a rotation blocking device for blocking of the load carrier with respect to the frame in a braking operation mode, and a decoupling means to decouple the load carrier from the rotation blocking device and/or the frame from the rotation blocking device so that a limited amount of movement of the load carrier and/or the frame with respect to the rotation blocking device is allowed in the braking operation mode of the rotation blocking device. A resilient member resists at least part of said movement of the load carrier and/or the frame with respect to the rotation blocking device.

Abstract: An overspeed governor for a stairlift includes a governor frame mountable to a carriage of a stairlift. A wheel is engageable with a rail of the stairlift along which the carriage is moveable. Translation of the carriage along the rail is transformed into rotation of the wheel or vice versa. A safety braking device has a braking surface movable between a first position and a third position. In the first position the braking surface is not allowed to engage the rail. A braking member is coupled to the wheel such that when said wheel rotates at a speed at or above a predetermined threshold, the braking member is moved from the first position to the third position. In the third position the braking surface engages said rail with a braking force to stop movement of the carriage along the rail. A soft landing means gradually slows movement of the carriage.

Abstract: A seat for a stair lift includes a horizontal seat, a vertical back rest, and two arm rests. Each arm rest is connected to the seat by a support bracket, and each arm rest is pivotable between folded-down and a folded-up positions. The arm rest is pivotably connected about a pivot axis to the support bracket and to a carrying beam having upper and lower sides. The upper side supports an arm of the sitting person. The arm rest is designed such that lower and upper tangents of the carrying beam extend at the same side of the pivot axis. The lower tangent is at a radial distance from the pivot axis, such that in the folded-up position the carrying beam extends from the vertical plane through the pivot axis in the vertical space behind the vertical plane towards and beyond the back side edge of the seat part.

In braking mode the retaining member moves relative to the second braking member to move the third braking member to engage the primary and secondary braking surface and block rotation of the second braking member in a tangential direction relative to the first braking member.

Abstract: A method for the extraction of information about a staircase includes scanning the staircase with a 3D scanning device to obtain a point cloud of the surface of the staircase; calculating the estimated normal vector of at least a part of the points of the point cloud; filtering the at least part of the points based on their normal vectors by ignoring points which do not have a normal vector with a substantially vertically upward direction; ordering the remaining points into sets of points based on their vertical elevation so that each set of points represents a step; determining a straight edge line of each set, which edge line represents the respective step; and storing a numerical representation of each determined edge line in the digital memory.
