  • Patent number: 6383148
Abstract: A method of measuring a body region of a human body includes recording at least two images of the body region from different camera positions, from which the contour lines are ascertained, for example, as a contrast. Used for scaling the images is a reference object with a reference zone, to which the camera is set in a perpendicular or near perpendicular viewing direction by means fan angle-determining device. The reference zone can be defined, for example, by perpendicularly protruding fins. From the projected images of the contour line and the reference zone, an individual model of the outside surface of the body region is subsequently ascertained by means of the reference model. From this individual model a prosthesis or orthesis can be fabricated.

  • Patent number: 6322594
Abstract: The invention relates to a hip joint which has an attachment for an artificial leg and which, in order to permit a largely natural walking movement, has the following features: a front link (5) and a rear link (6) are articulated at their respective upper sections, via a first joint connection (1) and a second joint connection (2), respectively, to a front section and a rear section, respectively, of an upper transverse link (7), and are articulated at their respective lower sections, via a third joint connection (3) and a fourth joint connection (4), respectively, to a front section and a rear section, respectively, of a lower transverse link (8); the first and third joint connections (1, 3) together have at least five degrees of freedom; the second joint connection (2) is a hinge pin which with its pivot axis (2a) is approximately perpendicular to the sagittal plane and has one degree of freedom; the fourth joint connection (4) has a pivot axis (4a) with mediolateral and anteroposterior inclination and with

  • Patent number: 6303069
Abstract: A process for the production of moldings from a polymer alloy of multiphase morphology, in which the polymer alloy is prepared with the injection molding in one process step. For this, thermoplastically processable polymers which are incompatible or not very compatible with one another are introduced as granules, preferably having a particle size of greater than or equal to 3 mm, into the hopper of an injection molding machine and are subsequently plasticized, mixed thoroughly, and shaped in the injection molding machine; where at least one of the polymers employed is capable chemically, under the injection molding conditions, of association and/or copolymerization with at least one other of the participating polymers. The resulting polymer alloys are not inferior in their properties to corresponding conventionally produced alloys. The moldings are useful in orthopedics.

  • Patent number: 6293573
Abstract: The invention relates to a linear sliding connection (1; 14; 18; 21; 29; 33) between two structural parts (2, 3, 9, 10; 3, 38, 39, 40, 2, 3, 10, 25). Said structural parts can slide back and forth in relation to each other with a damping effect in at least one of the two directions of movement. The invention is characterised by a mechanical friction damping element with a wire basket (4) which acts as a friction or clamping element. Said wire basket (4) encompasses the first (2, 3; 3, 38) of the two moveable structural parts concentrically on a longitudinal section in such a way that it rests on the outer surface of said first structural part, with one axial end (first basket end 4a) fixed on the second structural part (9, 10; 39, 40; 25, 10) and the other axial end (second basket end 4b) positioned on said second structural part in such a way that it is axially slideable in a longitudinal direction.

  • Patent number: 6189906
Abstract: The invention relates to a wheelchair having side frames including tube sections having a tube-bend at the front bottom end of each in an area proximate to where a bearing housing is mounted. The bearing housing has an approximately vertical bearing bore for accommodating an upwardly directed axle pin of a steering fork for holding a caster. The bearing housing also has an adjustment device, which is integrated in the screw mounting, for adjusting the bearing housing with respect to the side frame in order to align the bearing bore perpendicular to the ground. The bearing housing is mounted to the tube-bend via a guide passage of a clamping shell, which is correspondingly curved and is open on one side. The clamping shell is fitted laterally to the tube-bend and, is displaceably guided and is fixable in the desired position by tightening at least one clamping screw.

  • Patent number: 6050582
Abstract: Disclosed is a cross-strut arrangement for a folding roller-mounted chair having at least two struts connected to one another in a crosswise manner via a cross-strut articulation. The struts each are designed such that they can be changed in length, telescopically, for adjusting the seat width. At the top end of each strut a seat profile is located in the longitudinal direction of the folding roller-mounted chair and transverse to the strut for fixing the seat surface is adjustable to increase the seat depth.

  • Patent number: 5037443
Abstract: An artificial jointless foot comprises a wooden core forming an upper connecting surface with an elastic synthetic material connected to the wooden core for forming the foot shape and guaranteeing a flexible rolling action. The wooden core forms, on the connecting surface, a dorsal stop for an adaptor connectable to the stop. Deformation of the connecting surface in the region of the dorsal stop is prevented, even when wood not resistant to such load is used for the wooden core. The wooden core has, in the region of the dorsal stop, a recess open at the top and filled with a duroplastic cast resin, the surface of which is in line with the connecting surface.
