Patent number: 5474200Abstract: A lidded container for inventorying, shipping and storing goods having a security hinge including a blind boss disposed at one end of the hinge assembly, an open ended terminal boss disposed at the opposite end of the hinge assembly and a plurality of intermediate hinge bosses extending between the blind and terminal bosses with a hinge wire extending through the intermediate bosses and defining an axis about which the lid moves relative to the container. The terminal boss is open ended having an aperture as well as defining a cavity disposed in spaced relation relative to the axis of the hinge wire. The hinge wire has first and second ends with the first end disposed adjacent the closed end of the blind boss and the second end terminating in an offset portion disposed at an angle relative to the hinge wire axis.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1994Date of Patent: December 12, 1995Assignee: Otto Industries, Inc.Inventor: Charles A. Patent number: 5328048Abstract: A tote box style container (10) including a base (12) defining the bottom of the container (10), a pair of sidewalls (14) and a pair of end walls (16) extending upwardly from the base (12) to define an interior (18) of the container (10). A pair of lids (20) are hingedly connected to the upper portion of the sidewalls (14) of the container (10) along one edge of each lid (20) and moveable between a closed position barring access to the interior (18) of the container (10) and an open position where access to the interior (18) of the container (10) is not barred. At least one of the sidewalls (14) includes offset portions (22) extending along the vertical expanse of the interior of the sidewall (14) and in spaced parallel relation with respect to each other; At least one of the offset portions (22) terminates at its upper end so as to from a shelf (24) on the interior of the sidewall.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1993Date of Patent: July 12, 1994Assignee: Otto Industries, Inc.Inventor: Eric D. Patent number: 5183180Abstract: The invention provides commercial-size refuse containers preferably formed from a thermoplastic polymer. In front loading versions, the container includes metal lifting sleeves fastened horizontally on the exterior of each side wall and there is a portion of each side wall above the lifting sleeve which extends outwardly beyond at least part of the lifting sleeve and supports the lifting sleeve during lifting of the container. One of more vertically oriented channels are provided in the container side wall behind the lifting sleeve to provide integrally formed, vertical reinforcing ribs in the container side wall. The portion of the upper side wall extending outwardly above the lifting sleeve and the integral vertical ribs behind the lifting sleeve cooperate to distribute shear forces applied to the side wall during lifting of the container so that the container can be repeatedly lifted by the lifting sleeves without damage to the side wall.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1990Date of Patent: February 2, 1993Assignee: Otto Industries, Inc.Inventors: Larry S. Patent number: 5088750Abstract: The invention is directed to improved waste containers of the type that is supported on wheels and adapted to be rolled by the consumer. The multi-functional waste container of the invention can be lifted and emptied by various fully and semi-automated apparatus. The waste container of the invention is both strong and durable. Included is an improved lifting surface for automatic lifting of the container; an improved shape and a durable foot access means to assist in rearward tilting of the container by the consumer; and an improved lid and handle construction which improves lid durability and can reduce container body material requirements. The body of the waste container can be injection molded as a single, integral piece with no modifications required for wheel attachment, for lid attachment or for lifting pocket or lifting bar attachment.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1990Date of Patent: February 18, 1992Assignee: Otto Industries, Inc.Inventors: Ulrich Beese, Martin Schmidt, Eberhard Sturm
