  • Patent number: 7059232
Abstract: A tamper indicating closure comprising a base wall and a peripheral skirt having an internal thread adapted to engage the threads of a container wherein a tamper indicating band is provided on the skirt by a plurality of circumferentially spaced bridges. The band includes portions adapted to engage an annular bead on the container. The bridges are formed by using a primary knife having an interrupted cutting edge to produce a circumferential score in the side wall of the closure leaving spaced connectors or bridges followed by using a secondary knife having a continuous cutting edge to provide a continuous external score line and an accurately dimensional radial thickness of the bridges. In a preferred method and apparatus, the closures engage the successive primary and secondary knives and are moved such that the closures roll relative to the knives.

  • Patent number: 7041246
Abstract: A dispensing closure including a compression molded plastic closure having a base wall and a peripheral skirt having threads for engaging a container. An opening is formed in the base wall and a compression molded liner is molded in situ in the closure and includes a radial liner forming portion on the inner surface of the base wall of the closure. An integral nozzle is compression molded with the liner and extends axially through the opening in the base wall. One or more slits in the nozzle define a dispensing opening through which the contents of the container can be dispensed by squeezing the container. In another form, the dispensing closure is provided with a liner such that a syringe needle is used to penetrate an elastomeric wall for removal of the liquid contents of the package.

  • Patent number: 7008407
Abstract: A urine collection device (10) that is made up of a flexible, thermoplastic urine collection bag (20), which receives urine through a molded plastic inlet fitment (30) that is secured to an upper end of the bag 5 and discharges urine through a two-piece molded plastic valve fitment (40) at a lower end of the bag. The inlet fitment, which has no check valve therein, has a series of steps gradually reducing lateral extent as it extends longitudinally from the bag to a free end thereof, and each of the steps extends at a non-perpendicular angle to the longitudinal central axis of the inlet fitment. The bag is also free of any check or flutter valve. The outlet valve fitment has a fixed outer element (42) surrounding an inner element (44) that is rotatable with respect to the outer element to selectively open or close the outlet valve fitment to flow.

  • Patent number: 6968966
Abstract: A tamper-indicating closure of integrally molded plastic construction that includes a base wall having a peripheral skirt with internal threads for engaging external threads on a container finish. A tamper-indicating band is connected to the edge of the skirt by a plurality of circumferentially spaced integral frangible bridges. A stop flange extends axially outwardly and radially inwardly from an edge of the band remote from the skirt for inversion and engagement with a bead on the container finish. The stop flange is in the form of a circumferentially continuous base of uniform thickness circumferentially of the band, and either uniform or increasing thickness radially and axially of the band. A plurality of circumferentially spaced lugs are integral with and extend from the base. The lugs widen uniformly from zero thickness at the band to a maximum thickness at the free edge of the flange.

  • Patent number: 6948643
Abstract: A closure and container package includes a container having a finish with a mouth opening through which product is both filled into and dispensed from the container. A closure includes a base mounted on the finish and having an opening aligned with the mouth opening of the container finish. A lid is connected to the closure base by an integrally molded hinge to pivot between an open position in which the lid is spaced from the opening in the base and a closed position in which the lid is adjacent to the base. The lid includes facility for engaging either the mouth opening of the container or the opening in the closure base to close such openings in the closed position of the lid. • Patent number: 6896151
Abstract: A fluid dispensing closure includes a housing having a base for securement to a container and a peripheral wall extending from the base toward an open end spaced from the base. A flexible resilient liner is captured within the peripheral wall of the housing, and has a flange extending through the open end of the housing peripheral wall. A flow tip has a body captured within the liner and an outer end extending through the open end of the housing peripheral wall and through the flange of the flexible resilient liner. The flow tip has at least two fluid flow passages disposed within the liner, and a circumferential channel underlying the flange and interconnecting ends of the passages. Pressure applied to the flange by fluid in the passages and channel expands the flange away from the flow tip and channel to permit egress of fluid from the channel, and removal of such pressure allows resilient collapse of the flange over the channel to seal the passages.

  • Patent number: 6848590
Abstract: A child-resistant closure and container package includes a container having a finish with an external thread and pockets in the thread. A closure has a base wall, a peripheral skirt with an internal thread and lugs on the internal thread for receipt in the pockets, and a spring element on the base wall for engagement with the container finish to bias the closure away from the container finish and resiliently urge the lugs into the pockets. A liner is urged by the spring element into engagement with the container finish. The liner may include a base with metal and plastic layers for induction-welded sealing engagement with the finish such that, upon removal of the closure, the metal and plastic layers remain secured to the finish and the liner base is removed with the closure. The metal and plastic layers may be removed by a user for access to the contents of the container, and the liner base continues to serve as a package seal during use of the package.
