Abstract: A method of making an identifiable article such as a container or container preform. A molded plastic container or container preform is provided that includes a wall having at least one layer of matrix resin and at least one layer of barrier resin that is blended with an additive. The wall has at least one localized portion of predetermined geometry in which the barrier layer is thicker than surrounding portions of the wall, and within which the additive is discernable under visible or UV light so as to provide a means to prevent use of counterfeit containers.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for injection molding an article including a radially extending child resistant feature. Finish block halves are provided that include a pocket and that are closable together to form a neck-finish mold cavity. Mold body halves are provided that include a core portion and that are closable together to form a body mold cavity. The core portion is advanceable toward the pocket to cooperate therewith to define a cavity for forming the child resistant feature. The core portion may be integrally formed into one or more of the mold body halves, or may be separately mounted and relatively movable with respect thereto.

Abstract: A package includes a closure that is applied to a container. The closure includes a base wall having a cylindrical skirt depending therefrom. Locking lugs and cam lugs extend in a radially inward direction from the skirt. As the closure is applied down on the container, the locking lugs engage notches formed in the undersides of the projections and internal cam surfaces on the cam lugs engage external cam surfaces formed on projections disposed around the open end of the container. As a downward force is applied to the closure onto the container, the internal cam surface travels axially downwardly over the external cam surface, thereby causing the cylindrical skirt to spread radially outwardly.

Abstract: A child-resistant closure and container package includes a container having an open end surrounded by a cylindrical wall with a central axis, a plurality of circumferentially spaced projections extending radially outwardly from an outer surface of the wall adjacent to the open end, notches on undersides of the projections, and a plurality of circumferentially spaced flexible resilient spring elements extending radially outwardly from the outer surface of the cylindrical wall and angularly disposed between the projections. A closure includes a base wall, a cylindrical skirt extending from the base wall to an axial edge spaced from the base wall, a plurality of circumferentially spaced lugs extending radially inwardly from the skirt, and a circumferentially continuous annular wall extending axially from the base wall coaxially with and spaced radially inwardly from the skirt.

Abstract: A child resistant package includes a container having a finish with at least one external thread and at least one pocket in an undersurface of the thread. A closure for receipt on the finish of the container has a base wall, a skirt with an axis, at least one internal thread having at least one lug for receipt in the pocket of the container finish, and a spring disposed between the base wall and the container finish external thread. The spring yieldably biases the closure away from the finish and urges the lug into the pocket. The spring is a progressive spring that includes at least two spring rings preferably extending from the base wall at an angle to the axis of the skirt. The spring rings are radially spaced from each other and a first spring ring has a greater axial dimension or length than a second spring ring, with the first spring ring axially overlying the second spring ring.

Abstract: A dispensing closure has an integral measuring device and spoon applicator. The closure has an internal thread on a skirt for fitting onto a container finish. The closure has a tubular measuring device depending from the base wall within the radial confines of the skirt and ending at a spoon applicator for ease of oral administration.

An external ledge extends around the container wall at a position spaced from the open mouth. The ledge has an axially facing surface that adjoins a radially outwardly facing surface of the container wall, and closure securement structure on the ledge including at least one pocket. A closure includes a base wall, a peripheral skirt coupled to the base wall, at least one internal lug on the skirt for receipt in the at least one pocket on the container, and an annular wall that extends from the base wall for plug-sealing receipt within the container mouth when the skirt is received over the end of the container. At least one spring element extends from the base wall of the closure adjacent to the skirt radially inwardly and axially within the skirt.
