    Abstract: An engine cylinder block formed with an integral pump housing that reinforces the cylinder block and which has a communicating passage with the interior of the cylinder block that has an outer surface that is inclined upwardly of the cylinder block to permit gasses to escape during a casting process to avoid metallic voids from forming. In addition the block is further reinforced by longitudinal and vertical external ribs.
