Patent number: 11662417Abstract: An active marker device, and method of design thereof, for use in a motion tracking system are provided. In one arrangement, the device comprises a mounting body comprising a mounting surface. A plurality of light emitting units are mounted on respective mounting portions of the mounting surface. A control system controls the plurality of light emitting units such that light is emitted simultaneously from a selected subset of light emitting units. A plurality of optical elements are mounted on the mounting surface. Each optical element covers a different one of the light emitting units and is configured so that an inner surface of the optical element is separated from an outer surface of the light emitting unit. Each optical element redirects a portion of light emitted by the light emitting unit covered by the optical element to be more parallel to the mounting portion of the light emitting unit.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2019Date of Patent: May 30, 2023Assignee: OXFORD METRICS PLCInventors: Peter West, Miles Beattie, Paul Smyth, Phil Pritchett, José Araujo, David Reynolds

Publication number: 20230043103Abstract: There is provided a method of motion tracking comprising arranging one or more active marker devices on an object, the active marker devices being configured to emit light and each having an associated temporally repeating pattern comprising a plurality of time frames, controlling the one or more active marker devices to emit light according to their respective temporally repeating patterns, wherein the temporally repeating patterns are such that the active marker device does not emit light during at least one time frame of the plurality of time frames, detecting light emitted by the one or more active marker devices using one or more cameras, and determining a spatial configuration of the object using the light detected by the one or more cameras.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2020Publication date: February 9, 2023Applicant: OXFORD METRICS PLCInventors: Phil Pritchett, Paul Smyth

Patent number: 10375288Abstract: Systems and methods for motion capture are disclosed. In one arrangement a plurality of cameras are provided and a processing unit is configured to perform processing using image data from each of the plurality of cameras. Each of the cameras comprises an accelerometer and the processing unit is configured to perform processing that is dependent on an output from the accelerometers. In another arrangement each of the cameras comprises a temperature sensor and the processing unit is configured to perform processing that is dependent on an output from the temperature sensors.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2016Date of Patent: August 6, 2019Assignee: OXFORD METRICS PLCInventors: David Reynolds, Matthew Kingman, Ben Freeman, Shane Lowe, Paul Tate, Stephen Malton, Imogen Moorhouse

Patent number: 9992398Abstract: Optical sighting is performed using plural optical sighting apparatuses that each comprise: a camera unit and a viewing system for viewing images. Geometric calibration of the camera units with respect to the imaged scene is performed by detecting features within captured images, generating descriptors from respective patches of the image at the features; detecting corresponding descriptors from different images, and deriving the geometric calibration from the positions in the respective images of the corresponding descriptors. A target location in a designator image captured at an earlier image-capture time is designated and a corresponding location relative to the current image captured at the current time is identified from the geometric calibration. A viewing system indicates where the corresponding location lies relative to the current image.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2014Date of Patent: June 5, 2018Assignee: OXFORD METRICS PLCInventors: Eric Sommerlade, Emmet Spier, Julian Morris
