  • Patent number: 4181568
Abstract: A headbox for a paper machine for manufacturing at least a two-ply fiber web, comprising separate slice channels each connected to a separate source of fiber suspension and forming a slice opening extending across the wires of the paper machine for supplying separate fiber suspension streams upon the wires. The slice chambers are separated from each other by means of division walls each supported at the upstream end by the headbox adjustably in the cross direction with respect to the flow direction of the fiber suspension in the slice channel in order to allow adjustment of the cross sectional areas of said slice channels at the upstream ends of the division walls.

  • Patent number: 4173249
Abstract: An extended nip press for a paper machine for removing water from a fiber web carried by a porous felt through a press zone in which the web is subjected to a pressure action. The press comprises press rolls forming at least two separate press nips and a sealing element positioned between the second rolls forming the press nips. The web, the felt and a band supporting the web and felt is passed through the press nips. A pressure medium chamber is limited by that part of the band which extends between the press nips, by the secondary rolls and the sealing element for subjecting the web to the pressure action. The press nips form rolling seals between the secondary rolls and the band.

  • Patent number: 4112586
Abstract: A method of drying a cardboard or a paper web by passing the wet web supported by a drying band between two moving, nonpermeable surface elements having good heat conducting properties. The surface element contacting the web is subjected to heating and the surface element contacting the drying band is subjected to cooling. Due to the heating of the web the water contained therein is caused to evaporate and the evaporated water is caused to condense into the drying band due to the cooling of the drying band. The water is removed from the drying band after the web and the drying band have left the surface elements and have been separated from each other.

  • Patent number: 4070949
Abstract: A striking apparatus has a body which carries a tool and which has a cylinder space, a piston structure within the space, and a sleeve-type distributor valve within the cylinder and around the piston. Flow of hydraulic fluid supplied to the body under pressure is controlled by the valve and piston to cause the piston to reciprocate, striking the tool. The sleeve valve has an extension portion which controls flow through a canal in the piston to a valve operating distributor space and limits flow of liquid under pressure to an outlet canal to a relatively short interval in the operating cycle, thereby reducing the amount of liquid wasted.

  • Patent number: 4049787
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for separating hydrogen sulphide from clarified green liquor, including precarbonating green liquor with a carbon dioxide rich gas, adding alkali bicarbonate to the precarbonated green liquor and stripping hydrogen sulphide therefrom forming simultaneously alkali carbonate, and preparing the alkali bicarbonate used in the process from the alkali carbonate formed. The process of the invention is carried out by performing the hydrogen sulphide stripping without crystallizing the alkali carbonate formed, preparing the alkali bicarbonate partly from alkali carbonate-alkali sulphide solution obtained in the precarbonation step and partly from the non-crystallized alkali carbonate solution, feeding at least a portion of the alkali carbonate -- alkali sulphide solution through the carbonation step, and passing the carbon dioxide rich gas first through the carbonation step and thereafter through the precarbonation step.

  • Patent number: 4039033
Abstract: An hydraulically operated striking apparatus for driving a rock drill comprises a body having an axial, cylindrical, interior space with an inwardly protruding annular member. A cylindrical piston is positioned in the space in sliding contact with the protruding annular member, and the piston has a canal in its outer surface. The body, the annular member and the piston define two annular spaces and an annular distributing valve is caused to slide within one of the spaces under fluid pressure. The two spaces communicate with each other by means of the piston canal when the piston is in a first slidable position, and the protruding annular member prevents communication between the two spaces when the piston is in a second slidable position. The piston is provided with an axially disposed extension which, in combination with an outlet, serves to permit a third annular axial space to communicate with either an inlet or an outlet at all times.

  • Patent number: 3971449
Abstract: An arrangement for controlling the drilling functions of a full profile rock drill in which the speed of rotation of the cutting head and the feed force of the cutting head are controlled so that the rate of penetration of the drill bit reaches its optimum rate as a function of the feed force. The full profile of drilling apparatus has a part of the cutting head in which cutters are freely rotatable. The change of the rate of penetration of the cutting head into the rock is measured during the drilling operation, and the drilling functions are controlled on the basis of the measured results so that the cutting head feed force is either increased or decreased.

  • Patent number: 3951039
Abstract: A firearm having a smooth-bore barrel for firing fin-stabilized projectiles includes a muzzle assembly at the end of the barrel for stabilizing the projectile as it leaves the barrel upon being fired. The muzzle assembly includes a radial opening portion having apertures along the periphery of the assembly to exhaust firing gases therethrough. A gas guiding or diverting structure is mounted along the outside of the assembly and includes a deflection surface adjacent the apertures in the radial opening portion to divert any exhausted firing gases radially from the barrel and thereby prevent the exhausted firing gases from affecting the trajectory of the finned projectile.
