Abstract: Methods and computer readable media for designing an implant to support a bone of a person. Based on the daily activities of the person, one or more musculoskeletal loads applied to the bone are determined. Also, a set of characteristics of the implant, such as dimension, material, geometry, and shape of the implant, is selected. Then, a numerical simulation of the implant and the bone is performed to determine a physical status of the implant under the musculoskeletal loads. Subsequently, it is determined if the physical status meets one or more of preset failure conditions. If the determination is negative, the implant is taken as an optimized implant. Otherwise, at least one of the characteristics of the implant is modified and numerical simulation of the implant and the bone is repeated until an optimized implant is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5614143
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a hollow body such as a golf club head, having an external hollow body of molded thermal plastic material and an insert in the hollow by which it is possible to adjust the position of the center of gravity and the weight of the hollow body. An insert which is to remain within the hollow body is overmolded with a soft fusible metal to define with the insert a shape for the interior hollow of the hollow body. The hollow body of plastic material is overmolded over the combination of the insert and the overmolded core. The insert is then melted without melting the hollow body around it, and the melted insert material is removed from within the hollow body. For holding the insert and/or the fusible material core in place during the overmolding, either the insert is so shaped or a pin passes through the overmolded region defining an opening in the molded body through which the fusible material may be removed later, and that opening may be plugged.

  • Patent number: 5164927
Abstract: A disk record sound reproducing apparatus includes a turntable having a cylindrical rib formed on the lower surface thereof and protruding downwardly therefrom. A plurality of selection levers, equal in number to a number of modulated grooves of a disk record, are pivotably disposed below the turntable, the levers being arranged radially with respect to the center of the turntable. Each selection lever has a drawn-down arm and a holding arm which are respectively engageable with a part of the turntable and the lower edge of the rib. When one of the selection levers is turned, the turntable is lowered by the draw-down arm which presses down the part of the turntable, and at the same time, the holding arm rides over the lower edge of the rib and enters the inside of the rib. Thus, the turntable together with the record disk is maintained at its lowered position, and the application of stylus force to the disk record is released.

  • Patent number: 5138602
Abstract: A turn table having a sound recording disk or record mounted thereon is normally urged upwardly by a spring disposed between a lower surface of the turn table and a chassis of a casing to apply a stylus force to a pickup. A weight member is rotatably and eccentrically supported on an inside mounting plate, and an operating claw having a slant surface formed on a lower surface is fixed to the weight member. When a shock is applied to the weight member externally, the weight member rotates by an inertia force in a plane perpendicular to a rotary shaft of the turn table. As a result, the operating claw on the weight member moves toward an upper end of the rotary shaft. The slant surface of the operating claw rides over the upper end of the rotary shaft to downwardly press the rotary shaft together with the turn table. Thus, the stylus force of the pickup is released.

  • Patent number: 4827465
Abstract: A simplified sound reproducing device having a means for preventing collision between a record disc and a sound reproduction stylus is provided. According to the device, during the time of transportation a start lever is set at a position where it has been turned, whereby the center pin is moved downwardly by an inclined face formed on the start lever so that the record disc can be normally held at a position where it is placed away form the pickup of the sound reproducing device. When it is required to use the reproducing device for the purpose of playing, the start lever is turned back to the position where it had been before the first turning for the transportation, thereby subsequent pushing down of the start lever will make the inclined face move the center pin downward so as to move the record disc away from the pickup, then, the pickup is allowed to return to its starting point of sound reproduction and energizes a motor for starting the sound reproduction again.
