Patents Assigned to P.A.L.M. Microlaser Technologies AG
  • Patent number: 7569246
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for preparing a biological material for examination with a microscope, comprising the steps of: applying a UV laser light absorbing transparent film onto a surface of the biological material for smoothing out irregularities on the surface of the biological material in order to improve visual characteristics of the biological material; and cutting the biological material together with the UV laser light absorbing transparent film with a UV laser, thereby preparing the biological material for examination.

  • Publication number: 20080032034
Abstract: Receiving element for receiving a specimen detached from a biological mass by means of laser radiation A receiving element (1) is provided for receiving a specimen detached from a biological mass (7) by means of laser radiation, the receiving element (1) comprising a receiving surface for receiving the specimen, the receiving surface comprising an adhesive agent (4) for enhancing the adhesion of the respective specimen to the receiving surface. The adhesive agent (4) suppresses the occurrence of electrostatic forces, acting on the specimen, in the receiving element (1), may be dissolved without damaging the specimen and/or may receive agents for further processing of the specimen. A suitable adhesive agent (4) is in particular a hydrogel such as for example agarose. Such a receiving element (1) is suitable in particular for collecting specimens catapulted out of the biological mass (7).

  • Patent number: 7318999
Abstract: In order to separate individual, in particular biological, objects from a, in particular biological, preparation the use of a support device is proposed in which a laser light absorbent membrane (1), for example of polyester or polyethylene-naphthalene, to which the biological preparation for processing is to be applied is retained and tensioned, preferably together with carrier means (2) located thereunder, for example, a glass object carrier or a thicker membrane, by means of a retaining device (3, 4) configured in particular as a frame, so that a compact unit is provided. The support device according to the invention is particularly suitable for isolating individual biological objects from a surrounding biological material by means of laser irradiation and for catapulting said biological objects into a collecting device. The combination of a laser light absorbent membrane (1) and a laser light transparent membrane (2) as support for the laser light absorbent membrane (1) is particularly advantageous.

  • Publication number: 20070031816
Abstract: To enable contactless laser microdissection in a closed container (10, 11), for example in the form of a Petri dish, it is proposed according to the invention to use a holding device which comprises a receiving portion (4) for arrangement in the container (10, 11) and a holding portion (1) for arrangement externally of the container (10, 11). The receiving portion (4) serves to receive at least one receiving means (9), which serves in turn to receive or collect at least one biological specimen obtained by laser microdissection from biological material (15) located in the container (10, 11). The holding portion (1) is coupled to the receiving portion (4) in contactless manner, for example by means of magnetic coupling, in such a way that, by moving the holding portion (1), the receiving portion (4), together with the receiving means (9) held thereby, may be positioned in the closed container (10, 11) precisely over the biological specimen in each case to be received.

  • Patent number: 7044008
Abstract: In order to allow automatic separation and recovery of biological or non-biological objects from a mass, which is located on a mount (3), by means of laser irradiation, a collecting apparatus (2) is proposed which has control means (7, 50) for automatic production of adjustment signals for the adjustment means (13), wherein the adjustment means adjust and hence position, as a function of these adjustment signals, a holding unit (19) having at least one collecting means (21) which is or are used for collecting an object which is released from the mass.

  • Publication number: 20050250219
Abstract: In order to separate a biological material (2), for example a section of tissue, for the preparation of an examination with a microscope, it is proposed that the biological material (2), which is present on an object carrier (1) is provided with a film (3) from a transparent preparation, mixture and/or pure substance dissolved in a solvent, which solidifies with progressive evaporation of the solvent or reacts so that through the film (3) from the preparation, mixture and/or pure substance irregularities in the surface of the biological material (2) are smoothed out and thus the visual examination characteristics of the compound are improved. In this way, the examination material can be better observed and examined with a microscope.

  • Patent number: 6930764
Abstract: A laser micro-dissection system, which is provided with a laser beam, in particular for the processing of biological material located on a carrier, comprises a laser, a microscope with a camera for the production of a microscope image or video image of the biological material located on the carrier and display screen for the display of the recorded video image, With the aid of suitable input means, a desired biological object to be processed with the laser beam, in the video images displayed on the screen, is selected and allocated to a corresponding object group. The control of the laser micro-dissection system, which can be realised in the form of a computer, automatically produces a list, in which on the one hand the individually selected objects and, on the other, a comprehensive representation of the object groups is contained.
