Abstract: A clamping apparatus for clamping a workpiece-blocking plate of a table saw includes a mounting member attached to a machine base, and a retaining plate mounted pivotally on the mounting member. The retaining plate has an L-shaped plate portion that supports the workpiece-blocking plate thereon and that is biased to press the workpiece-blocking plate against the mounting member. When the workpiece-blocking plate is removed from the apparatus, the retaining plate can be turned to a storage position, where the retaining plate is disposed within a notch in the mounting member and where the L-shaped plate portion is disposed within an L-shaped notch portion of the notch.

Abstract: A cutter guard device is adapted for use in a belt saw machine, and includes a stationary hinge leaf formed with a first knuckle unit, a movable hinge leaf formed with a second knuckle unit, and a hinge pin extending through the first and second knuckle units, thereby permitting rotation of the movable hinge leaf between cutter concealing and cutter exposing positions. The movable hinge leaf is further slidable along the hinge pin between retaining and pivoting positions. The movable hinge leaf is movable between the cutter concealing and cutter exposing positions when disposed in the pivoting position on the hinge pin. A retention unit retains releasably the movable hinge leaf in the cutter concealing position when the latter is further disposed in the retaining position on the hinge pin.

Abstract: An angle indicating apparatus includes a rod member, an indicia member, an indicator, a spring-loaded tumbler unit, and a locking unit. The indicia member is mounted pivotally on the rod member about a pivot axis, and includes a base plate formed with a generally semi-circular cutout. The indicator is disposed in the cutout and points to angle indicia that are provided on the base plate adjacent to the cutout. The base plate is further formed with a curved guide slot, and has a bottom side formed with a plurality of angularly spaced apart positioning grooves. The spring-loaded tumbler unit is mounted on the rod member and engages removably a selected one of the positioning grooves. The locking unit passes through the guide slot and is operable so as to engage the rod member and arrest undesired rotation of the indicia member relative to the rod member.

Abstract: A scroll saw includes a machine base and a table mounted pivotally on the machine base for placement of a workpiece to be sawn. The table is rotatable about a horizontal axis that extends in a longitudinal direction of the machine base. A C-shaped blade-holding arm is fixed on the machine base, and has upper and lower arm portions that extend in the longitudinal direction of the machine base. A saw blade is held between front ends of the upper and lower arm portions of the blade-holding arm, and extends perpendicularly through the table. A saw-blade driving device includes a motor which is disposed within the machine base, and which is provided with a motor shaft. The motor shaft extends in the longitudinal direction of the machine base. A linkage interconnects the motor shaft and the saw blade so as to reciprocate the saw blade relative to the blade-holding arm.

Abstract: A wood planing machine includes a machine base having first and second mounting sides. First and second pairs of posts are fixed on the machine base at the first and second mounting sides, respectively. A cutter carriage is disposed above the machine base, and has opposite end portions mounted respectively, vertically and movably on the posts. A cutter unit has first and second shaft portions journalled to the first and second end portions of the cutter carriage. The second shaft portion is formed with a first engagement section. A cutter locking device includes a locking plate mounted movably on the second end portion of the cutter carriage, and having a vertical plate portion disposed adjacent to the second shaft portion, and a horizontal plate portion disposed below the second shaft portion and formed with a second engagement section.

Abstract: A wood planing machine with a tool accommodating function includes a machine frame having an upper portion, and a tool box having a lower box body mounted securely on the upper portion of the machine frame. The lower box body confines a tool accommodating space adapted to receive tools therein, and has an open top side. The tool box further includes an upper cover body with a rear side edge hinged to the lower box body. The upper cover body is movable relative to the lower box body so as to selectively open and close the open top side of the lower box body.

Abstract: A thickness-indicating device for a wood-planing machine includes a mounting member, a pointer, a vertical pushing rod, a resilient member, and a scale member. The mounting member is adapted to be disposed fixedly on the cutter seat. The pointer has a connecting end that is mounted pivotally on the mounting member, an indicator end that is rotatable about the connecting end, and an abutment portion that is located between the connecting end and the indicator end. The pushing rod is disposed vertically and movably on the mounting member, and has an upper end which abuts against the abutment portion of the pointer, and a lower end which is adapted to abut against a top surface of a workpiece that is held on the machine. The resilient member is adapted to bias a lower end of the pushing rod to abut against the workpiece. The scale member is disposed fixedly on the mounting member near the indicator end of the pointer.

Abstract: A wood planing machine includes a machine base having left and right mounting short sides, and feed-in and take-out long sides. Left and right pairs of posts are fixed on a top surface of the machine base at the left and right mounting short sides, respectively. A cutter carriage is disposed above the machine base, and has opposite end portions mounted respectively, vertically and movably on the posts. Left and right threaded rods are mounted respectively and rotatably on the mounting short sides of the machine base such that the threaded rods are disposed respectively between the left and right pairs of posts, and extend threadedly through opposite end portions of the cutter carriage for moving the cutter carriage along the posts. Two sprockets are sleeved respectively and fixedly on the left and right threaded rods. A chain has a front chain section and a rear chain section, and engages the sprockets so as to rotate the left and right threaded rods synchronously with each other.

The shaft extends rotatably and is mounted vertically and movably on the pointer-retaining case, and has a lower contact end abutting against the machine base.

Abstract: A planing machine includes a carriage locking mechanism disposed above a cutter carriage, which in turn, is connected movably to left and right pairs of vertical posts. The carriage locking mechanism includes an elongated mounting plate disposed fixedly on the cutter carriage, a left locking unit having a pair of left clamping claws that press respectively and releaseably against the left pair of posts, and a right locking unit having a pair of right clamping claws that press releaseably against the right pair of posts. A cam member is disposed pivotally on the mounting plate. The cam member has two projections that engage respectively the left and right locking units. A pivot end of a rotary lever is mounted pivotally on the mounting plate, and is connected to the cam member so as to rotate synchronously with the cam member. The rotary lever is rotatable so as to remove the projections of the cam member from the left and right locking units.

Abstract: A workpiece supporting assembly for a table saw includes a worktable and two horizontal rows of rollers disposed respectively and rotatably on two vertical side walls of the worktable. Two movable rails are disposed respectively on the side walls of the worktable. Each of the rails has an open-ended horizontal dovetail groove that extends long the length thereof and that confines the rollers of a corresponding one of the rows therein. A horizontal extension support plate rides on the rails. Accordingly, the rails and the extension support plate can move smoothly relative to the worktable.

Abstract: A quick release saw blade chuck includes a mounting block, a clamping block pivotally connected to the mounting block, a bolt member extending through a bore in the clamping block, a threaded unit engaging threadably an externally threaded end portion of the bolt member, a rotary lever having a pivot end portion which is pivotally connected to a pivot end portion of the bolt member by a small pivot pin, and a spring for biasing an engaging face of the clamping block to press against a positioning face of the rotary lever. A saw blade is clamped between a pressing face of the clamping block and a bearing face of the mounting block. The rotary lever can be rotated about the small pivot pin so as to remove the positioning face of the rotary lever from the engaging face of the clamping block and so as to engage a camming face of the rotary lever with the bearing face of the mounting block, thereby permitting the spring to bias the pressing face of the clamping block to separate from the saw blade.

The extension plate is pivotable about an axis transverse to the first section between a first position where the extension plate extends into the gap in order to shield at least a part of the gap, and a second position where the extension plate extends beyond the first end of the first section of the elongated body in order to prolong the length of the first section from the first end of the first section.

Abstract: An operating handle for a cutting device includes a handle body adapted to be mounted securely on the saw carrier of the device; a switch installed on the handle body and adapted to be activated to drive a cutting saw carried by the carrier; a trigger member mounted swingably on the handle body; a switch driving piece mounted swingably on the handle body and biased to locate at a predetermined position adjacent to the trigger member, the trigger member being capable of being rotated in a first direction so as to rotate the switch driving piece in a second direction opposite to the first direction, thereby activating the switch to drive the saw; and a lock unit releasably locking the switch driving piece on the handle body to prevent the switch driving piece from rotation in the second direction.
