    Abstract: Disclosed is a protector for a retro-reflective road marker mounted on a road that includes a top surface that has a generally flat region and a bottom surface oppositely disposed from the top surface. The generally flat region has an opening where the retro-reflective road marker can be at least partially mounted to the protector by deforming studs located along the perimeter of the opening such that the retro-reflective road marker is moveable independent from the protector. The protector is made from a moldable polymer and the top surface is operable to protect the road reflector from motor vehicle tires passing thereover.

    Abstract: An improved road marker with a one piece shell and recesses containing elongated members with an undercut relief is provided. The road marker contains a retroreflective lens and a bottom surface with a plurality of the recesses protruding into the shell. The cross section of the recesses can be in the shape of a circle, ellipse, triangle or any shaped polygon, and said cross section can vary as a function of the depth of the recess into the shell and the location of said recess on the bottom surface. The cross section of the elongated member in an axial direction can be in the shape of a circle, ellipse, triangle or any shaped polygon. The undercut relief can be in the form of threads, ridges or any type of indentation into the elongated member that provides a rough surface.

    Abstract: A road marker having a collar for mounting a reflector to the surface of the road. The collar is a generally flat disk, having a pair of diametrically opposed projections. The projections have inner planar surfaces to receive a reflector therebetween and curved outer surfaces to facilitate the passage of tires over the marker. The projections have a width and height greater than that of the reflector to protect the ends of the reflector from abrasion. A recess is provided for mounting the reflector to the collar. A plurality of shallow apertures are formed on the bottom surface for receiving a mounting compound for adhering the collar to the road surface.

The snowplowable road marker has a circular top section with opposed dished surfaces extending from a peripheral edge. The peripheral edge is mounted in an outer bore below the level of the road surface. A bridge portion extends between a pair of channels. The bridge portion has at least one inclined wall having a recess for accepting a signalling device. A brow extends outwardly from the inclined wall over the recess to reduce contact between the tire of a vehicle passing over the road marker and the signalling device.

    Abstract: A pavement marker for a roadway surface includes a lower base portion and a retro-reflective lens mounted on the base portion at an angle to it. A photopolymerizable clear acrylic protective hard coat is deposited over and integrally formed with the front face of the lens for resisting abrasion of the lens and reducing the loss of optical efficiency resulting from such abrasion. The pavement marker also includes a frame of generally arcuate cross-section formed about an edge of the hard coat potentially susceptible to peeling from impact of vehicle tires against the hard coat. The frame is preferably formed as a bead raised from the face of the marker, and the bead includes a sharp interior edge lying generally perpendicular to the lens, adjacent the edge of the hard coat.

A photopolymerizable clear acrylic protective hard coat is deposited over the front face of the lens for resisting abrasion of the lens and reducing the loss of optical efficiency resulting from such abrasion.A method of making the pavement marker includes the steps of forming the lens 20 having the front face 22, coating the front face 22 of the lens 20 with a photopolymerizable acrylic composition, irradiating the coating with ultraviolet or electron beam irradiation to cure the acrylic composition to an abrasion resistant coating 24, and mounting the lens 20 in the housing 12 to dispose the coated front face 22 away from the housing 12.
