Abstract: A letter opening device is provided. The letter opening device includes a generally rectangular body having a letter opening blade for opening envelopes. The body is formed from a molded plastic material and is suitable for being hand held, and the letter opening blade is molded partially within the plastic molded body. The device further includes a sheet-like material cutter having a coupon cutting blade. A portion of the coupon cutting blade is exposed exteriorly of the body whereby the exposed portion can be manipulated to selectively separate sections of sheet-like materials such as paper and plastic sheets.
Abstract: A letter opening device, having a letter opening blade for opening envelopes which is molded partially within a plastics molded body suitable for being hand held and for cutting open envelopes is provided with a generally rectangular recess in the body of a size to receive a business card, or the like, therein for display laterally for the body. Card retaining tabs are molded integrally of the body to retain the business card within the recess and a transparent flexible window member is provided for overlying the card in the recess. End tabs are formed integrally of the window member which cooperate with slots formed in the body to maintain the window member in assembled relation to the letter opener device in overlying relation to the business card being displayed by the letter opener device.
Abstract: A utility knife/box cutter includes an ergonomically-shaped handle portion with exterior stippling to provide a good grasp upon the knife. Within the handle portion, a channel member is received in a forwardly extending cavity and movably receives a cutting blade carrier for longitudinal movement relative to the handle portion. A cutter blade carried in the blade carrier is moveable between a storage position entirely within the handle portion and successively further forward use and replacement positions. Also received into the handle portion is a spare blade holder member pivotal between a blade retaining position entirely within the handle portion and a blade releasing position in which a forward part of the spare blade holder member is pivoted out of the handle portion to present spare blades for removal and transfer to the cutting blade carrier.
Abstract: A blade for a utility knife is provided which has a trapezoidal shape with a cutting edge and a pair of side edges which converge towards a blunt back edge. A safety edge joins each of the side edges with the cutting edges. The safety edges intersect with the cutting edge at an obtuse angle and provide substantially blunt surfaces. Safety corners are formed at intersections of the safety edges and the side edges. The safety corners are disposed at the outermost distal ends of the blade relative to the cutting edge. Cutting corners are formed at the intersections of the safety edges and the cutting edge. The cutting corners are disposed inwardly along the cutting edge relative the safety corners. This way, inadvertent contact between an operator and a safety edge would not be likely to cause injury since the safety corners would be contacted first.
