Patents Assigned to Pacific Kenyon Corp.
  • Patent number: 4937082
Abstract: There is disclosed a stable thixotropic suspension of water insoluble animal feed nutrients in an aqueous feed solution and a method for its preparation. The method comprises forming a liquid gel from an aqueous solution of sugar, protein or mixtures thereof, having a concentration of at least 60.degree. Brix, by adding calcium hyroxide and phosphoric acid or ammonium polyphosphate to the solution. The gel is diluted with water and insoluble feed nutrients such as fat, calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, etc., or drugs such as monisan are suspended in the diluted gel. Water soluble feed nutrients such as urea, sodium bicarbonate, etc., can also be added.

  • Patent number: 4804546
Abstract: There is disclosed a stable thixotropic suspension of a fat in an aqueous liquid gel of a feed solution and a method for its preparation. The method comprises forming the liquid gel from a solution of sugar, protein or mixtures thereof, by incorporating ammonium phosphate in the solution in an amount sufficient to form the gel, adding water to reduce the concentration of the gel, and then adding fat. When fats with solidification temperatures above ambient temperature are added, the liquid gel is warmed to about the melting point of the fat and the fat is melted before mixing the fat with the liquid gel. Other water insoluble feed nutrients such as calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, etc., or drugs such as monisan can also be suspended in the resultant gel. Water soluble feed nutrients such as urea, sodium bicarbonate, etc., can also be added.

  • Patent number: 4803085
Abstract: The invention is a preservative coating for solid animal feed supplement and a method for its application. The solid feed supplement is produced as a viscous liquid that gels into a hard solid after it has been poured into molds which are usually the cartons for the final supplement packages. The preservative coating is a digestible film former which, optionally, contains an effective amount of mold inhibitor.

  • Patent number: 4800088
Abstract: A method of making a free choice feed block solidified with calcium hydroxide, etc. which is improved by incorporating a 2 to 20% protein meal and 16-20% of a solid filler of brans, hulls and shells to produce a solid hardness of from 35-60. The presence of the protein meal and filler increases the hardness of the feed block.

  • Patent number: 4731249
Abstract: There is disclosed a packaging method, and package, for animal feed supplement blocks. The packaging method comprises pouring a chemically hardening feed supplement mixture into a mold lined with a bag formed of a water soluble plastic, preferably polyvinyl alcohol. The top edges of the plastic bag are folded against the surface of the liquid mixture in the mold, and an adhesively backed label can be applied over the folded edges. The mold is bottomless, so that it can be readily stripped after the supplement mixture has solidified into a block. The resultant package greatly increases the storage life of the block as it substantially reduces moisture loss and eliminates mold growth. The package is a very attractive, glossy surfaced product, and the color and appearance of the block can be observed through the glossy transparent plastic film. As the plastic film is water soluble and digestible, it does not present any hazard to cattle in the event it is eaten by the cattle.

  • Patent number: 4729896
Abstract: A buffer containing, solid, animal feed supplement which has the proper hardness and palatibility to achieve a daily animal consumption of 0.2-0.5 pound of sodium carbonate or bicarbonate and 0.07-0.15 pound of magnesium oxide with free choice feeding. The feed supplement is a solidified mixture of various feed ingredients with a feed solution of sugars or proteins, and mixtures thereof. The supplement is solidified by sodium carbonate, or a mixture thereof, and magnesium oxide.

  • Patent number: 4643908
Abstract: There is disclosed a new soft, moist pet food and a method for its manufacture. The pet food has a high moisture content, 25 to 50 weight percent, and contains two major nutrient ingredients which are: a protein source, such as a meat meal; and a sugar, each of which is used in an amount from 12 to about 35 weight percent on a dry weight basis. The pet food is prepared by mixing the protein source with an aqueous alkaline ingredient and the sugar to obtain a viscous, intimately admixed sol. The sol is then neutralized to a mildly acidic pH value and the resulting mixture is poured into containers in which it solidifies in a period of several hours, reaching most of its ultimate firmness in approximately 24 hours.
