  • Publication number: 20060167456
Abstract: A device, system and method for securing a plate to a bone. An anchor device has a screw (with a head portion) and a locking disc. The head portion includes a slotted wall defining a plurality of petals disposed around a central opening. The screw further includes an internal bore. The locking disc is rotatably disposed within the central opening, such that in a first rotational position the petals may flex inwardly, and in a second rotational position the petals are substantially prevented from flexing inwardly. A tool for manipulating the anchor device has a shaft with its end configured to mate with the internal bore of the screw to permit selective rotation of the screw, and a sleeve member rotatably and slideably mounted on the shaft having an end that mates with the locking disc to permit selective rotation of the disc.

  • Publication number: 20050240177
Abstract: The invention includes an electromechanical hand-switching forceps arrangement that includes a switch in the form of an insulated pin and an insulated cylinder block to receive the pin midway along the respective tines. The insulated pin and insulated cylinder block contain respective contacts. Except for the contacts themselves, the switch is fully enclosed and fully insulated so that when it is activated, there is no leakage of high frequency electrosurgical current in the surrounding area. The pin is normally disposed just within the opening in the cylinder block such that they are not in contact with the closing of the tips of the tines.

  • Patent number: 5193678
Abstract: In operation of the apparatus of the preferred embodiment, a used surgical sharp is placed into a drop window or receiving opening. Once the sharp is resting upon the partial floor of the housing assembly, the user will engage a safety slide having a pinch style cutter mechanism, so that a mandrel and blade converge and shear any remaining suture material from a needle. This also closes a window protector over the receiving opening. A magnet properly aligns metal items for disposal. Once any suture material is cut from the needle, a safety device consisting of opposing intermeshable rakes sweeps the sharp along the partial floor and into the drop window. This sweeping motion is created by the user moving the shuttle assembly from front to rear from a first to a second position. The shuttle assembly must be moved to the second position before it can be returned to the first position. A counter is then engaged to advance one increment.

  • Patent number: 4899888
Abstract: A corrugated cardboard packing carton for the transportation of rectilinear articles is provided with cushioned pads to support the lower and upper planar surfaces of the article being transported to protect it from impact. Inserts at each corner of the carton support the article at its edges. The inserts are pre-cut so that portions may be removed to adjust the width of each insert to the exterior size of the article being transported, allowing a single size carton to be used in the packaging of articles of differing dimensions.
