Patents Assigned to Pains-Wessex Limited
  • Patent number: 6224442
Abstract: A device for releasing a link between a first object and a second object is disclosed. The device comprises a body having a holding means for securing the body to the link; a releasing means for releasing the link; a pyrotechnic composition for actuating the releasing means; an igniting means for igniting the pyrotechnic composition, the igniting means being activatable by an increase in ambient pressure; and a pressure-sensing means for detecting a change ambient pressure. In one embodiment, the device can include a sliding blade actuatable by a pyrotechnic composition that is ignited by an electrical stimulus activated by an increase in ambient pressure, and the link may be for example, a cable securing an emergency position indicating radio beacon to a watercraft.

  • Patent number: 5099747
Abstract: A minefield breaching system or apparatus and a delivery projectile therefor comprises a projectile arranged to be mounted on a rifle, light mortar or similar weapon and to be projected in a desired direction by firing a round from the weapon into the projectile; an explosive line connected directly or indirectly at one end thereof to the projectile; and detonation means arranged to be connected directly or indirectly to the explosive line at the other end thereof for detonation of the explosive line; the projectile comprising a rocket the motor of which is arranged for operational ignition upon a round from the weapon being fired into the projectile, and the projectile carrying a presence or location indicator together with power means for operation of the indicator.

  • Patent number: 4719856
Abstract: The pyrotechnic device comprises a projectile, a ground mounted device or a floating device whose casing contains a charge of titanium or other suitable combustible metal-containing material, charcoal, or other reducing agent and gunpowder such that, following ignition, infra-red emitting particles are emitted to form an infra-red radiating screen. The carbon reduces oxidation of the combustible material prior to emission.

  • Patent number: 4719857
Abstract: The pyrotechnic device comprises a projectile, a ground mounted device or a floating device whose casing contains a charge of particulate material, for example a combustible silicon-containing material in particular mixed with titanium or other suitable combustible metal-containing material and gunpowder such that, following ignition, infra-red emitting particles are emitted for forming an infra-red radiating screen.

  • Patent number: 4176606
Abstract: A hand-operated pyrotechnic device has a tubular handle and, slidable telescopically therein, a tubular striker supporting a firing pin. The striker is rotatable from a `Safe` position to an `Armed` position, and movable axially, by impact, from the `Armed` position to a `Fire` position. A resilient detent prevents movement from the `Armed` to the `Fire` position unless the applied impact force exceeds a predetermined value. Further resilient detents prevent unintentional arming of the device.

  • Patent number: 4130060
Abstract: The invention provides a pyrotechnic device comprising a casing containing an electrically-operable ignition device for igniting a charge, the ignition device comprising a base and an electric igniter head electrically connected to two spaced and mutually insulated terminals in the base. One terminal is disposed centrally within the base and the other terminal is located, at least in part, on the periphery of the base. The base is fitted within an opening in an electrically-conductive wall of the casing, the other terminal making electrical contact with this wall. Means are provided to prevent the ignition device from being ejected from the casing under the shock loading resulting from ignition of said charge.
