    Abstract: A spacer comprises two interlocked beams, each folded from a sheet of corrugated paperboard so as to have a base panel and panels on each side of a plane intersecting the base panel approximately at a right angle. In each beam, the panels on each side include a side panel extending from the base panel, an outer panel extending inwardly from the side panel approximately to the intersecting plane, an inner panel extending from the inwardly extending outer panel approximately to the base panel, and panels bracing and reinforcing such beam. Each beam has a notch opening at the base panel and receiving a portion of the other beam. Two tongues including portions of the base panel and portions of the side panels project toward each other and project partly over the notch. Each beam has recesses extending along folds and receiving the projecting tongues of the other beam.

    Abstract: A paperboard pallet having a trapezoidal profile is disclosed, which comprises two outer stringers, an additional stringer therebetween, an upper sheet, and a lower sheet. Each stringer has a trapezoidal profile. The upper sheet is secured adhesively to a broad, upper end of each stringer. The lower sheet has two outer flaps, each being folded upwardly and being secured adhesively to an outer wall of a respective one of the outer stringers. The upper sheet may have two outer flaps, each being folded downwardly and being secured adhesively to such an outer wall. Several alternative arrangements are disclosed, which include one wherein a lower base of a paperboard tray defines the upper sheet, another wherein a lower base of a paperboard carton defines the upper sheet, and others wherein blocks cut from such stringers replace the stringers.

    Abstract: A pallet comprises at least one relatively long, longitudinally extending stringer folded from a single sheet of corrugated paperboard material of a given cross-section, preferably trapezoidal, and two relatively short, transversely extending braces, each folded from a single sheet of corrugated paperboard of a similar cross-section, preferably inverted. The stringer has notches receiving portions of the braces. Each brace has a notch receiving a portion of the stringer. The notches interfit with each other and are dimensioned so that the stringer and the braces are coplanar at their upper and lower edges. The stringer and the braces are secured adhesively to each other at the interengaging notches. In one contemplated embodiment, plural decking members are employed. In other contemplated embodiments, an upper sheet and a lower sheet are employed. In certain contemplated embodiments, the stringer with the braces is a middle stringer between two outer stringers.

    Abstract: A polymer pallet leg for a cardboard pallet base including a first truncated cone, a second truncated cone within said first truncated cone inversely positioned with respect thereto, a rim surrounding and offset below a top edge of said first truncated cone, and a plurality of locking tabs extending outwardly from a top edge of the first truncated cone. The locking tabs engage with corresponding tab holes of a cardboard pallet about a pallet leg hole. The second truncated cone includes a flat surface for engaging with any object placed on the pallet and is about the same height as the top edge of the first truncated cone. An optimal braking tab can also be provided for engaging the cardboard further locking the leg in position. A pallet leg insert engages into the second inverted cone for attaching a bottom pallet base to the polymer pallet legs.

    Abstract: A rotary accumulator for folded beams of corrugated paperboard with adhesive applied thereto, such as pallet stringers or decking members, comprises a conveyor for feeding the beams longitudinally with spaces therebetween, a generally circular array of beam holders mounted to a rotary framework for receiving each beam in one holder, for holding such beam in a desired configuration for a finite time to allow adhesive applied thereto to cure, and for releasing such beam thereafter, a mechanism for indexing the holders in a generally circular path, and a longitudinal member for removing each beam from the beam holder holding such beam when such beam engages such members as the holders are being indexed. The mechanism is powered by a pneumatically powered piston-cylinder mechanism, which drives an escapement mechanism, or by an electric motor. Certain sensing and detecting devices are provided for controlling the mechanism.

    Abstract: A pallet repair and inspection system includes pallet destacking apparatus for automatically dispensing pallets from stack of vertical pallets one at a time and discharging the pallets onto an inspection table. The destacking apparatus includes a vertically reciprocating table onto which the stack of pallets is driven and horizontally reciprocating forks which are operated to suspend all but the lowermost pallet as the table is successively lowered and raised between a pallet discharge height and a pallet pick-up height, to discharge the pallets into the inspection table one at a time. The top of the inspection table is foldable to define a cradle for one end of the pallet, orienting the pallet generally vertically, allowing inspection of its top and bottom surfaces.
