Patents Assigned to Pandora Media, Inc.
  • Patent number: 11475476
Abstract: A content server system provides a client device with content, such as an audio stream. Using various techniques, an estimate is made of the actual size of an audience associated with the provided content, rather than assuming that the audience is limited to a single user of the client device. The estimate may be made by the content server system, the client device, or the content server system and the client device collectively. Using the estimate of actual size of the audience, the content server system can take actions appropriate for the audience, such as providing advertisements appropriate for the size of the audience and for the collective characteristics of the audience members. The estimate of the actual audience size additionally allows the content server system to be compensated more precisely for any advertisements provided to that audience.

  • Patent number: 10387489
Abstract: A media playlist is generated in which media items have a tempo matching a target tempo. The content server receives a seed value and a tempo signal from a client device. The tempo signal indicates a target tempo specified by the user. The content server calculates a target tempo range associated with the target tempo and generates a filtered playlist of media items based on the seed value and the target tempo range. The media items in the in the filtered playlist have tempos within the target tempo range. The content server provides the media items in the filtered playlist to the client device.

  • Patent number: 10129314
Abstract: A media service server for streaming media items with similar media features receives a plurality of media items, where each media item of the plurality of media item is labeled with one or more media features characterizing the media item. Audio content features from the plurality of media items are extracted. Correlations between the audio content features and the media features are identified. A set of media items to be analyzed is received. For each media item of the set of media items, a set of media features based on the identified correlations between the audio content features and the plurality of media features is estimated. Each estimated media feature is associated with a confidence score. The set of media items with the estimated media features is provided to one or more experts for expert analysis.

  • Patent number: 10088978
Abstract: A content server system provides a user of a client device with a playlist of content, such as streamed audio. The provided playlist is customized for the particular country of the user, even if the content server system has only recently begun to provide content to that country. To customize the playlist for a country lacking a sufficient amount of country-specific statistical data, the content server system generates a number of non-country-specific channels, each channel recommending content according to its own criteria. The content server system generates a non-content specific playlist by combining the channels. The content server system also generates, using the statistics for the country of the user, a country-specific channel that is specific to that country. The content server system generates a country-specific playlist by combining the non-country-specific playlist with the country-specific channel, e.g., according to the amount of country-specific statistics that are available.

  • Patent number: 10068556
Abstract: A content server generates sponsored audio including procedurally generated background music. The content server obtains reference music features describing musicological characteristics of reference songs as well as sponsored audio information received from a third-party. The content server determines music generation parameters based on the sponsored audio information and based on a music model mapping the reference music features to music generation parameters. The music model may incorporate machine learning techniques to improve the mapping. The content server generates background music by using the determined music generation parameters as input to a procedural music algorithm, and generates sponsored audio by combining the generated background music concurrently with an audio voiceover obtained from the sponsored audio information. The sponsored audio is provided to a client device, which presents the sponsored audio to a user.

  • Patent number: 9959557
Abstract: A content server provides a client device with audio content including an audio advertisement, which is provided in response to receiving a request for digital audio content from a client device associated with a user. The content server obtains user information about the user and retrieves advertisement text received from an advertiser, which are used to generate a personalized text advertisement. The personalized text advertisement is generated according to an advertisement template specifying an ordered combination of text components. The personalized text advertisement includes the received advertisement text, user information text selected from the obtained user information, and template text. The client device is provided with an advertisement based on the personalized text advertisement and is configured to play an audio version of the personalized text advertisement. The audio advertisement is generated using a text-to-speech algorithm at the client device or at the content server.

  • Patent number: 9754309
Abstract: Data streams are generally selected according to user preferences and transmitted to the user in general alignment with expressed preferences of the user. Such data streams may be music, including music videos. Users may indicate their general or specific preferences with regards to song, artists, or albums. Any other aspects or factors that might affect the user's preferences can be taken into account. A playlist is created that combines all of these factors. The playlist then serves as the basis for feeding the data streams to the user. Each user is able to express his or her own preferences and receive music corresponding to those preferences on an on-going basis.

  • Patent number: 9729910
Abstract: A content server monitors media preferences of a user associated with a partial user profile specifying partial demographic information about the user. The content server deconstructs the monitored media preferences to identify preferences of the user for musicological features of the media items. The content server infers profile information missing from the partial user profile responsive to the preferences of the user for musicological features of the media items, the inferring using baseline information associating profile information of a plurality of baseline users with preferences for musicological features of media items. The content server selects an advertisement using the inferred profile information, and provides the selected advertisement to a client device used by the user.

  • Publication number: 20130179439
Abstract: Systems and methods of generating and modifying a playlist using contextual information are disclosed. For example, a user may provide an input seed such as a song name or artist name. The input seed is compared to database items and a playlist is generated as a result. In some examples, the contextual information is used to enhance the comparison and to select better content objects for a user's playlist. Meanwhile, in some examples the content objects in the playlist may be arranged in an enhanced order using ranking and/or contextual information.
