  • Patent number: 10730274
Abstract: An embosser/laminator machine has an adhesive unit releasably connectable with a main frame structure of the machine, and a roll extractor configured to move a roll between the main frame structure and an exchange position between the main frame structure and the adhesive unit when the adhesive unit is spaced from the main frame structure during removal and installation of the roll. The sub-frame comprising the adhesive unit may be formed with a bearing cap that cooperates with the main frame structure such that when the adhesive unit is connected with the main frame structure, the roll is operatively secured to the machine between main frame structure and the sub-frame of the adhesive unit for normal operation of the machine. When the sub-frame comprising the adhesive unit is released and spaced from main frame structure, the roll may be removed from and installed into the main frame structure.

  • Patent number: 10676304
Abstract: A clasp is configured to engage an end of a tube. The clasp has a shaft that is insertable into a tube. The clasp includes a housing with clamping blocks that are spaced circumferentially around the shaft. The clamping blocks are moveable between a disengaged position in which the clamping blocks are spaced radially outwardly from the shaft at a distance sufficient such that a tube is insertable between the shaft and the clamping blocks, and an engaged position in which the clamping blocks are positioned radially inward of the disengaged position toward the shaft and are configured to press a tube disposed between the blocks and the shaft against the shaft. The clasp has at least one actuator engageable with at least one clamping block of the plurality of clamping blocks to move the at least one clamping block between the disengaged position and the engaged position.

  • Patent number: 10478988
Abstract: A method involves conveying tissue logs in a saw conveyor. The conveyor has independent lane control cutting and variable conveyor flight length. In one aspect of the method a first tissue log is received in a lane of a conveyor. With a first log advancement member, the first tissue log is advanced in the lane of the conveyor for cutting with a tissue log saw. A second tissue log is received in the lane of the conveyor when the first tissue log has advanced sufficiently in the lane to accommodate the second tissue log in the lane. With a second log advancement member, the second tissue log is advanced in the lane of the conveyor for cutting with the tissue log saw independently of the step of advancing the first tissue log in the lane. The conveyor may also have multiple lanes.

  • Patent number: 10272585
Abstract: A conveyor system for advancing tissue logs has a first log advancement member that conveys a lead tissue log toward a discharge end of a lane via a first drive, and a second log advancement member that conveys a successive tissue log after the lead tissue log toward the discharge end of the lane via a second drive. A controller is coupled to the first and second drives. The controller is adapted and configured to control: the first drive to move the first log advancement member between a start and finish position, the second drive to move the second log advancement member between the start and finish position, and the first drive independently of the second drive. A plurality of like lanes may be provided and the controller may also control the first and second drives of one lane independently of the first and second drives of another lane.

  • Patent number: 10259213
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and method for cleaning the surface of a printing roll, such as an anilox roll. The device includes a laser-equipped assembly adapted to project a laser beam on the surface of the printing roll. The laser-equipped assembly uses a reflector and a lens to guide the laser beam along a predetermined path on the surface of the printing roll. In some embodiments, an autofocus system may be included to move the lens so that the desired focal point for the laser beam on the printing roll surface is achieved.

  • Patent number: 9975720
Abstract: A method of forming a roll of convolutely wound web material. The method includes applying adhesive to an elongated mandrel, winding web material around the mandrel to form a roll of convolutely wound web material, rotating the mandrel relative to the roll to smear the adhesive, and removing the mandrel from the roll. The smearing can be in a circumferential direction. The adhesive can be applied longitudinally along the mandrel. The adhesive preferably has a viscosity within the range of 3000 to 18,000 cps. Preferably, the method includes pulling the mandrel longitudinally before the step of removing the mandrel from the roll. The pulling can reduce the mandrel diameter and/or can increase its length. The rotating can be conducted before the pulling, during the pulling or during the winding. The rotating can be conducted before or during the removing. The web material can be bathroom tissue or kitchen towel.

  • Patent number: 9308663
Abstract: A control method for a cutting blade, particularly for cutting-off machines for logs of web material, interrupts operation of the cutting blade when deformation of the blade reaches a preset deformation value and resumes operation of the cutting blade when the deformation of the blade is less than another preset deformation value. The control method measures deformation values of at least a portion of the cutting blade, compares the measured deformation values with at least one preset deformation value set by an operator, and sends, according to signals coming from the result of the comparison, control signals to a motor of the machine to control the start up and/or the stop of the motor.

  • Publication number: 20100028548
Abstract: Apparatus for gluing the final tail of rolls or logs of wound sheet material includes a glue distributor device located below an opening in a roll down table. The tail of the roll is separated from the roll by a tail separating unit upstream of the opening. The gluing distributor device includes a tank containing glue, a rotatable pick up roll located inside of the tank and partially immersed in the glue, and a glue distributor roll positioned externally above the tank and provided with at least one paddle. The pick up roll picks up glue as it rotates, and the rotating paddle contacts the pick up roll and picks up glue as the glue distributor roll rotates. The paddle rotates into the opening in the roll down table, and glue is transferred from the paddle to a roll as the roll rolls over the opening. A cull roll can be culled without applying glue to the roll by mounting a cull roll support projection on the glue distributor roll which is not long enough to contact the pick up roll.

  • Patent number: 7114609
Abstract: A wrapping machine for wrapping products is provided with a product diverter for producing package formats which are greater in width than the number of lanes which deliver product to the wrapper machine. A plurality of metering belts advance product from an infeed conveyor along a plurality of infeed lanes. The metering belts are independently driven so that product can be advanced in each lane independently of the product in the other lanes. The metering belts deliver product to accelerator belts which speed up the product to create a gap between successive products in a lane. A first flighted conveyor advances product from the accelerator belts to a plurality of pivotally mounted diverting gates, corresponding in number to the number of infeed lanes. Each of the diverting gates direct the product to one of a plurality of output lanes. The number of output lanes is equal to, less than, or greater than the number of infeed lanes.

  • Patent number: 7104494
Abstract: In a rewinding machine (10), a device (50) for discharging logs (20, 20?) comprises: a chute (30) disposed downstream of a winding area (2) designed to allow the formed logs (20?) to roll towards the output of the winding machine (10), a stopping device (111, 117) designed to stop the log (20?) on the chute (30), and an actuator (113) acting on the stopping device (111) to bring it from a working position in which it stops the log (20?) to a resting position in which it allows the log (20?) to roll on the chute (30). The chute (30) comprises: a first portion (31) with a slight slope, disposed at the output of the winding area (2), designed to slow the log (20?) by friction or in any case not to accelerate the rolling thereof, and a second portion (32) with a slope greater than that of the first portion (31), designed to accelerate by gravity the rolling of the log (20?) after it has been stopped by means of the stopping device (111,117).

  • Patent number: 7028612
Abstract: A plurality of curved plates which are adapted to be mounted on an embossing roll are identically engraved with an embossing pattern that matches the plate dimensions, permitting them to be interchanged or replaced without disrupting pattern discontinuity. In one embodiment, the pattern is created to match a given plate by laying out a skew grid matching plate corners, and using grid parallelograms as pattern unit cells. In another embodiment, an existing doubly periodic pattern is minimally distorted to match the plate geometry.
