  • Patent number: 6520404
Abstract: The top of a carton, with opposite main panels and opposite side panels, has an inner and outer major flap hinged to opposite main panels. At each side panel, an ear has a lower portion hinged to the side panel and two upper ear-halves, one hinged to each of the major flaps. To seal the top, adhesive is applied to an outer face of the inner major flap and to the ear-halves extending from either end of one of the major flaps, usually the inner major flap. Then the inner major flap is folded down and the ear-halves extending therefrom are folded down and out. The outer major flap with extending ear-halves is folded on top in overlapping relation so that the adhesive bonds. In one aspect, each ear has a notch between the ear-halves to facilitate overlapping of the ear-halves. With the carton blank coated with an impermeable coating, the resulting carton is air tight.

  • Patent number: 5390848
Abstract: A product sleeve for holding (typically) four products, such as bottles, has a protuberance between pairs of products to assist in holding the products in portion within the sleeve. The protuberances are formed by tabs hinged to one end panel of the product sleeve blank. These tabs have a notch and at least one further hinge line. These tabs may be pushed through openings in the other end panel of the blank so that they fold about their hinge lines to form the noted protuberances and the notch in the tabs lock to a portion of the other end panel.

  • Patent number: 5240173
Abstract: A product sleeve blank comprises a number of panels hingedly connected toher. The outside panels have interengagement structure associated therewith. One of the outside panels has a premium card detachably joined to an edge thereof along a perforation line. The sleeve blank is sized so that when this outside panel is folded about its hinge line with the adjacent panel, the premium card overlies a further panel between the hinge lines of that panel. The premium card may be affixed to this further panel and then the premium card detached from the outside panel with which it is associated so that the panels may be hinged and the inter-engagement structure engaged to form a sleeve. The premium card may be readily removed by a consumer by being peeled from the panel to which it is affixed.

  • Patent number: 5205477
Abstract: An interlocking carton and lid combination is disclosed for storage of ice cream, frozen yogurt and the like. The interlocking combination includes a rectangular container provided with flaps integrally formed therewith and attached along a crease inwardly into the container and glued along a strip portion to the side walls. A slot is provided in each of two opposed sides on the exterior thereof, the slots formed in the side wall between the crease and the glue strip adhesively coupling the flap to the side wall. This positioning of the slot with respect to the crease and glue strip causes the unglued portion of the flap to bow outwardly. A lid having a central portion has transversely extending flanges integrally formed and attached to the peripheral edges of the central portion. The flanges include an outer side and an inner flap portion connected along a crease.

This positioning of the slit with respect to the crease and glue strip cause the unglued portion of the flap to bow outwardly. A lid having a central portion is provided with transversely extending flanges attached along the peripheral edges of the central portion and integrally formed therewith.

  • Patent number: 5082117
Abstract: A carton of the type having; first and second main panels and first and second side panels which are connected to one another so as to articulate between a knocked-down compact configuration and an open sleeve configuration. First and second main flaps hingedly are connected to the first and second main panels respectively and first and second side flaps hingedly connected to the first and second side panels respectively. Each of the flaps has a proximal end adjacent and a distal end remote from its associated main or side panel. Pour spout sub-panels are initially formed as integral parts of adjacent first main and first side flaps and are severable from the remainder of the adjacent first main and first side flaps respectively to form a pour spout in use. The adjacent first main and first side flaps each have marginal edge portions located at their distal end outwardly from the pour spout sub-panels with respect to their associatd first main and first side panels respectively.

  • Patent number: 5020718
Abstract: A divider panel assembly for a carton which has a handle panel and an anchor panel which are interconnected by tear bars is cut to form the tear bars in a manner which will maintain the strength of the handle panel while facilitating the separation of the handle panel and the anchor panel. The joint between the handle panel and the anchor panel is formed by providing a plurality of cuts at the connection between the handle panel and the anchor panel. Each joint has first, second and third cuts which are arranged to form tear bars therebetween which are of a greater length than the tear bars previously known so as to facilitate the initial movement of the handle with respect to the anchor panel and the ease with which the tear bars may ultimately be torn. All of the cuts which form the joining means extend in or below the severance plane.

  • Patent number: 4957237
Abstract: The present invention provides a box with internal stacking capacity and particularly useful for the stacking of different food products such as pizzas and the like. The box itself comprises a base, a top and at least one internal platform with downwardly extending platform walls which space the platform above the base and below the top for vertical stacking of the products interiorly of the box. The platform is hingedly secured to the box for lifting the platform out of the way and exposing the box base with the platform still remaining attached to the box. The platform attachment then provides a guide for refitting of the platform back into the box.

  • Patent number: 4871071
Abstract: A paperboard lid having first and second weakened score lines formed in the upper and lower faces thereof respectively. The score lines extend obliquely across the lid at a corner to form a frangible corner panel. The first score line is located between the corner and the second score line. A third weakened score line extends inwardly from the corner to the second score line. The path of the first and third score lines intersect one another at an intersection point, one of the first and second score lines is a discontinuous score line and the other is a continuous score line. The discontinuous score line is interrupted closely adjacent the intersection point such that the first and third score lines do not overlap at the intersection point.

  • Patent number: 4867373
Abstract: The handle reinforcing portion of a combined divider and handle reinforcing insert for a paperboard carton is formed with a three-ply thickness. The blank from which the divider is formed has first and second divider panels and first and second handle panels. A first handle reinforcing sub-panel is severed from the first divider panel and extends longitudinally inwardly from a first end edge of the first divider panel and is hingedly connected to the lower edge of the first handle panel along a hinge line. A second handle reinforcing sub-panel is hingedly attached to the second edge of one of the first or second handle panels and extends longitudinally therefrom. The first and second sub-panels are located between the first and second handle panels and having a combined surface area substantially matching that of the first handle panel to provide a third ply of thickness between the first and second handle panels when they are secured to one another.

  • Patent number: 4834240
Abstract: In a carton a premium card is formed integrally with a glue flap of the carton along a weakened tear line so that it extends within the container space of the carbon in a face-to-face relationship with respect to an adjacent side wall. The premium card has a glue tab connected thereto at a point remote from the glue flap. The glue tab is adhesively secured to the inner face of the adjacent side wall of the carton to retain the card in an intimate face-to-face relationship with respect to the adjacent side wall. The card is detachable by tearing along weakened tear lines which connect it to the glue tab and the glue flap so as to be removable.

  • Patent number: 4757939
Abstract: A carton divider formed from an elongated unitary blank which is formed with a plurality of fold lines which extend from its upper edge toward its lower edge in a spaced relationship. The fold lines serve to divide the blank into first, transverse divider panels, a first side wall panel, a second transverse divider panel, a second side wall panel, a third transverse divider panel and a central handle panel. The blank being cut to form a second handle panel and a first glue flap which extends downwardly from the upper edge. The second handle panel has one edge hingedly connected to the second divider panel along one of the fold lines. The second handle panel has a length which matches that of the first handle panel. The first glue flap is hingedly connected to the second handle panel along one of the fold lines. The blank is cut to form a third handle panel and a second glue flap which extends downwardly from the upper edge. The third handle panel has one edge hingedly connected to the central handle panel.
