  • Patent number: 9909850
Abstract: A measuring device and method for simultaneously measuring both a slice lip opening and a setback of a headbox slice in a headbox of a papermaking machine are provided. The measuring device is formed by a block having a stop depending from the bottom at the back of the block that is adapted to be placed against the apron lip tip. A height measurement scale is located on a side surface and extends in a direction from the front to the back adapted for measuring the slice opening b. A setback distance measurement scale is located at the top extending from a zero position aligned in a fixed relation with the stop surface toward a front of the block for measuring the setback L. A movable sliding indicator connected to the block slides includes a slice lip locator adapted to move into sliding contact with the slice lip to indicate the setback distance L on the setback distance measuring scale while simultaneously indicating the slice opening b on the height measurement scale.

  • Publication number: 20170268172
Abstract: A pneumatically actuated doctoring device for paper machine de-watering/paper forming is provided having a base member supported on a papermaking machine structure, and a blade support with a fabric contact element. A single pneumatic air tube having first and second attachments on opposing sides is also provided. The first attachment engages the base member and the second attachment engages the blade support. The tube is configured for connection to a pressurized air source and a vacuum source to extend or retract the blade support. A linkage arrangement is connected between the blade support and the base member and includes first and second links located between the base member and the support member. The links each have a pivotal connection to the base member and provide for a fixed orientation of the blade support relative to the base member as the pneumatic air tube extends or retracts the blade support.

  • Patent number: 9708766
Abstract: A cover device (10) is disclosed for use in a dewatering shoe or other drainage device of a papermaking machine. The cover device (10) includes a plate (12) of expanded metal which defines a plurality of elongate holes (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21) for the passage therethrough of water as indicated by the arrow (22) removed from a web W disposed on a dewatering screen (24) moving in a machine direction MD relative to the cover device (10). The arrangement is such that the dewatering screen (24) is disposed between the web W and the cover device (10) so that the water (22) is removed from the web W through the dewatering screen (24) and then through the elongate holes (14 to 21).

  • Patent number: 9422665
Abstract: A headbox apparatus for a papermaking machine is disclosed. The headbox apparatus defines a flow path for stock flowing between an upstream header and a downstream slice lip. Each block and an adjacent block of a plurality of blocks defines therebetween a flow tube for the flow therethrough of the stock. An upstream ramp is defined by a first surface for generating an upstream vortex adjacent to the first surface. A downstream ramp is defined by a second surface for generating a downstream vortex adjacent to the second surface. Adjacent blocks also generate downstream vortices which rotate in opposite directions relative to each other within the flow tube so that impact of the upstream and downstream vortices on a flow consistency and a velocity uniformity of the stock is reduced.

  • Patent number: 9404588
Abstract: A valve for a vacuum drainage system includes a valve body having an interior chamber operatively connectable to a suction device and through an outlet to a vacuum source. A movable member having an aperture is secured within the chamber and movable through points between closed and open positions to adjust the open area of the aperture and the fluid flow through the outlet. The aperture is configured such that during adjustment to increase the effective operational area of the aperture, a rate of change of the effective operational area increases non-linearly in relation to a linear increase in the distance of travel, while providing advantageous and more controllable linear adjustment of the applied vacuum. The aperture can have a trilateral shape including at least one curved side, or comprise a plurality of sub-apertures, and the movable member can comprise a rotary sleeve.

  • Patent number: 8795473
Abstract: A tube bank apparatus is disclosed for distributing stock in a headbox of a papermaking machine. The apparatus includes a tube having a first and a second portion for the flow therethrough of the stock. The first portion defines a bore for the flow therethrough of the stock, the bore having an upstream and a downstream end. The second portion defines a passage for the flow therethrough of the stock, the passage having an upstream and a downstream extremity. The upstream extremity of the passage cooperates with the downstream end of the bore so that the stock flows from the upstream end to the downstream end of the bore and then through the upstream extremity and then the downstream extremity of the passage.

  • Patent number: 8075737
Abstract: A headbox apparatus for a papermaking machine is disclosed. The headbox apparatus defines a flow path for stock flowing between an upstream location and a downstream slice lip. The apparatus includes a plurality of blocks which are anchored within the flow path between the upstream location and the slice lip. Each block and an adjacent block of the plurality of blocks define therebetween a flow tube for the flow therethrough of the stock. The flow tube has an upstream portion having an upstream and a downstream end. The flow tube has a downstream portion having an upstream and a downstream extremity, the upstream extremity of the downstream portion extending from the downstream end of the upstream portion. The downstream portion of the flow tube has a volume which is greater than a further volume of the upstream portion of the flow tube such that when the stock flows from the upstream portion to the downstream portion of the flow tube, the stock is mixed within the downstream portion.
