A computer implemented statistical process control method includes converting a plurality of data points to a plurality of Cartesian coordinate sets, determining a centroid for the plurality of Cartesian coordinate sets, calculating a distance from each of the plurality of Cartesian coordinate sets to the centroid, and establishing an ellipsoidal control zone based on the plurality of distances.
