  • Patent number: 5444876
Abstract: Protective eyewear having a wrap-around type lens and a frame which surrounds the upper and side edges of the lens. The frame includes a slot to receive the lens, and the slot has spaced pawls within the slot. The lens includes mating detents within the face of the lens to receive the pawls and thus retain the lens to the frame. The lateral edges of the frame include upper and lower struts and a bracing bar extends vertically between the struts to define an airflow opening. Rearward of the bracing bar a paint hinge posts extend from the struts in coaxial spaced opposed relation. The temple for the eyewear includes a hinge end having a pivot hole for receiving the hinge posts. The pivot hole includes a cutout with a height corresponding to that of one of the hinge posts, and a width slightly less than that of this hinge post. The temple may thus be mounted and removed from the hinge posts by inserting a first hinge post into the hinge hole, and then snapping the cutout over the remaining hinge post.

  • Patent number: 5027443
Abstract: Eye protective goggles for protecting a wearer'2 eyes from particulate matter in the air includes a goggles body and a lens support fixedly secured to the body. The lens support includes a circumferential lens fitting groove of predetermined shape and is constructed of a material that is hard and rigid relative to the goggles body. An eye protective lens including a circumferential edge having a shape corresponding to the predetermined shape of the fitting groove is removably attached to the lens support by snap-fit receipt of the circumferenital edge of the lens in the fitting groove. A method of constructing eye protective goggles is also disclosed and includes athe steps of aligning a hard rigid lens support with a relatively soft flexbile goggles body by passing a plurality of tabs of the lens support through a corresponding plurality of slots of the goggles body, and securing the tabs in position relative to the slots so that the tabs are prevented from being withdrawn therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4616647
Abstract: A disposable face mask is made up of molded fibrous sheet material which is formed to define a generally cup-shaped main body having two spaced, generally parallel, integral, interior nose portions filter-seals which are strategically located to engage opposed sides of the nose of the wearer. The mask body also desirably has an elongated, integral interior chin portion filter-seal which is positioned to engage the face underneath the wearer's chin. The nose and chin filter-seals cooperate to prevent passage of contaminated air beneath the peripheral edge of the mask and the user's face. The elongated nose filter-seals are especially effective in preventing passage of contaminated air along paths of travel which extend from the nose bridge encompassing part of the mask to the user's nostrils of mouth. The same is true of the chin filter-seal. The nose and chin portions preferably interconnect to form a continuous filter-seal around the periphery of the mask.

  • Patent number: 4579113
Abstract: A disposable protective cover for face-engaging respirators, or the like, which is particularly useful in a contaminated environment in preventing particulate buildup on the respirator. For example, in painting operations the cover protects the respirator from paint buildup and contamination, preserving the respirator from undue wear and reducing frequent cleaning and maintenance of the respirator. The cover presents a thin, flexible body configured to generally conform to the shape of the outer surface of the respirator. The body has an opening to provide access to the respirator intake and a cuplike section to provide a loose fit of the cover around the respirator exhalation valve to allow unrestricted breathing. The covers hereof present structure for quick attachment or detachment of the covers from the respirator. The exact structural features of the covers are adapted to accommodate different types of respirators, such as full face or half-face masks, and external air source or filter type masks.
