The remote computing devices are configured to transmit updated inventory information to the central computing devices when an inventory item is newly added to the inventory system and when an inventory item is taken out of the inventory system. The remote computing devices also correspond to one or more inventory units for storing the inventory items. The remote computing devices are configured to transmit order requests to the central computing device that request additional inventory items for their corresponding inventory units.
