  • Patent number: 6181074
Abstract: A circuit for operating a discharge lamp wherein a variable representing an operating state of the lamp is stored in an operating state storage device. A changeover device switches over between a plurality of operating states of the lamp. The operating state storage device is activated by each relatively short interruption of power to the operating circuit and switches over to an operating state other than that represented by the stored variable. A timer circuit separate from the operating state storage device is coupled to the voltage supply terminal of the operating state storage device and defines a specific time for distinguishing relatively long interruptions of the power supply from relatively short ones.

  • Patent number: 6172467
Abstract: A method for producing pulsed-voltage sequences for the operation of discharge lamps (8) by means of a pulsed discharge which is impeded dielectrically provides that the pulsed-voltage sequence is composed of two partial voltage sequences in such a manner that the magnitudes of the peak values of each partial voltage sequence are less than the magnitudes of the peak values of the resultant pulsed-voltage sequence, for example half as large. This has the advantage that correspondingly less EMI is generated when the partial-voltage sequences are produced. In addition, the two partial voltage sequences contain rising flanks of opposite gradient with respect to a reference-earth potential, the two partial voltage sequences preferably being inverted with respect to one another. This provides ideal complete compensation for the electromagnetic interference (EMI) produced by the two partial voltage sequences, at least locally.

  • Patent number: 6161598
Abstract: A method for producing helically wound filament elements, and filament elnts produced according to this method. The method is distinguished in that a thermal treatment of the incandescent wire at temperatures of over 1200.degree. C. takes place already before the winding of the incandescent wire, so that, after separation, the coil springs open and can easily be detached from the core wire.

  • Patent number: 6160341
Abstract: An electric incandescent lamp with a rotationally symmetrical lamp bulb and an IR radiation reflecting coating has an ellipsoidal partial contour. ellipsoidal partial contour of the lamp bulb is produced by an elliptical section, the semiaxis of which is oriented vertically to the longitudinal axis, i.e., vertically to the rotational axis of the lamp bulb, and is longer than the greatest radius of the lamp bulb. The length of the smallest semiaxis lies preferably in the range of R<b<R+5.multidot.w.sub.x, wherein R and w.sub.x denote the largest radius of the lamp bulb and the radius of the rotational symmetrical luminous element, respectively. The lamp is characterized by uniform back reflection of IR radiation onto the luminous element arranged centrally inside the lamp bulb, and thus by a uniform temperature distribution and increased efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6144568
Abstract: The invention relates to a circuit arrangement for operating electrical lamps which encompasses an invertor (WR) with oscillation build-up circuit (trigger generator), comprising diac (DC1) and drive circuit. The drive circuit comprises a high-pass filter, in particular an RC high-pass filter (R1, C1). As a result, the trigger initiation is shifted closer to the zero crossing of the supply voltage. This means, in turn, that a more sinusoidal power supply current consumption with a smaller proportion of harmonics is obtained. In addition, more stable lamp operation is achieved in combination with power supply segment control dimmers.

  • Patent number: 6111344
Abstract: An electric filament incandescent in lamp, in particular a halogen incandent lamp (9) with a rotationally symmetrical lamp bulb (10) and I.R. radiation reflecting coating (14), has an ellipsoidal partial contour. The ellipsoidal partial contour of the lamp bulb is produced by an elliptical section, the large semiaxis, and, consequently focal axis of which is oriented vertically to the longitudinal axis, i.e. vertically to the rotational axis of the lamp bulb (10). The length of the large semiaxis (a) lies preferably in the range R<a<R+5.multidot.w.sub.r, wherein R and w.sub.r respectively stand for the greatest radius of the lamp bulb (10) and the radius of the cylindrical luminous element (15). The lamp (9) is characterized by uniform back reflection of the I.R. radiation onto the cylindrical luminous element (15) arranged centrically on-axis inside the lamp bulb (10), and thus by a regular temperature distribution, as well as by increased lamp efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6104142
Abstract: In the circuit arrangement for the high-frequency operation of a low-power ow-pressure discharge lamp (LP) having a mains rectifier (2) and a half-bridge circuit, a diode (D1) is connected in series and in the DC non-conducting direction in the connecting line between the second electrode (E2) of the lamp (LP) and the positive or negative pole of the rectifier (2). Moreover, the tap (M2) between the diode (D1) and the second electrode (E2) is connected to the other pole of the mains rectifier (2) via a capacitor (C1), and a resistor (R9) is connected in parallel with the diode (D1). The circuit thus created acts as a passive harmonic filter which fulfills for the circuit arrangement the IEC regulations of class D with reference to line current harmonic content.

  • Patent number: 6097155
Abstract: A fluorescent lamp (1) having a tubular discharge vessel (2), filled with ert gas, and a fluorescent layer (6) has elongated electrodes (3; 4; 12; 14a-14d) arranged parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tubular discharge vessel (2), at least one electrode (4; 12; 14a-14d) being arranged on the inner wall of the discharge vessel (2). The tubular discharge vessel (2) is sealed in a gas-tight fashion at one or at both ends with a stopper (8) and by means of solder (9), the at least one inner wall electrode (4) being guided to the outside in a gas-tight fashion through the solder (9). Alternatively or also in addition, at least one electrode (16) is arranged inside the wall of the discharge vessel (2). Up to a maximum of the entire inside diameter can be used as striking distance, depending on the positioning of the associated counterelectrode(s). High luminous densities are achieved because of the large and, at the same time, constant striking distance along the discharge tube.
