  • Patent number: 10863159
Abstract: Systems and methods described that provide for sending a first temporal portion of video to a client, wherein video quality of a first spatial region associated with a first direction of view is sent with higher quality than video data for another spatial region not associated with the first direction of view; sending a second temporal portion of the video to the client; and responsive to determining that a significant event, audio or video or a combination, occurred during the second temporal portion and corresponds with a second direction of view that is associated with a second spatial region, sending higher quality video for the second spatial region than video data for another spatial region. Virtual reality (VR) video, including 360-degree VR video may thus be foveated, based on contextual information in the video data and corresponding audio data, combined with field of view predictions based upon user motion.

  • Patent number: 10841537
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein are provided for managing user positions in a shared virtual geometry, capturing 360° views of a local user environment in a spatially faithful system, and computing a perspective view of a first user from the eye-point of a second user. Users may move around the shared virtual geometry, and perspective views of users may be updated. Some embodiments use a co-centric geometry for group conferencing with other users. Some embodiments may use a grid-based geometry for exploration with other users. Some embodiments may reduce transferred bitrates to enable systems and methods to be implemented in data-limited environments. Some embodiments support users moving and navigating a shared virtual geometry.

  • Patent number: 10753906
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining a material of an object using sound. Exemplary methods employ a head-mounted display (HMD). In an embodiment, the method includes determining, using a depth camera function of the HMD, a distance to an object; emitting, using a speaker of the AR HMD, a generated sound signal; and responsive to emitting the sound signal, detecting a reflected sound signal. Relative to the emitted sound signal, the HMD determines attenuation levels for a temporal portion of the reflected sound signal for at least two frequency ranges of the reflected sound signal, the temporal portion of the reflected sound signal corresponding to a computed round-trip travel time of the sound signal traveling the determined distance to and from the object. Based upon the determined attenuation levels, the determines a material corresponding to the attenuation levels.

  • Patent number: 10730512
Abstract: Systems and methods related to dynamic map layers for autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicles and allowing real-time (e.g. latency of less than one second) updates utilizing a plurality of available surrounding sensors (e.g., collaborative sensors), including roadside sensors and sensors of other nearby vehicles. When a vehicle detects an obstruction to a field of view of a sensor, the vehicle may request sensor data from other vehicles to fill the gap in sensor data of the vehicle. This allows the vehicle driver or vehicle illumination system to be focused on the obstructed area.

  • Patent number: 10705595
Abstract: Described herein are various embodiments for enabling realistic haptic feedback for virtual three-dimensional (3D) objects. A real proxy surface is provided for a virtual object, where the proxy surface may be a relief surface, such as a depth-compressed model of the virtual object. In an exemplary method, when a user touches a proxy surface, a position of the touch point on the surface is detected. The touch point is mapped to a corresponding point on the virtual object. A position of the virtual object is determined such that the touch point is in alignment with the corresponding point on the virtual object, and the virtual object is displayed at the first determined position on an augmented reality display. As a result, a user touching the proxy surface may have the sensation of touching a solid version of the virtual 3D object instead of the proxy surface.

  • Patent number: 10701320
Abstract: Systems and methods are described that enable a 3D telepresence. In an exemplary method, a 3D image stream is generated of a first participant in a virtual meeting. A virtual meeting room is generated. The virtual meeting room includes a virtual window, and the 3D image stream is reconstructed in the virtual window. The first participant thus appears as a 3D presence within the virtual window. The virtual meeting room may also include virtual windows providing 3D views of other participants in the virtual meeting and may further include avatars of other meeting participants and/or of the first meeting participant.

  • Patent number: 10699292
Abstract: Systems and/or methods for determining effectiveness of advertisements using devices and/or beacons and/or tags. A mobile device may send a request to an advertisement server. In response to the request, the mobile device may receive, from the advertisement server, an advertisement, an advertisement identifier, and a location identifier. Hie advertisement identifier and the location identifier may be associated with the advertisement. The mobile device may store one or more of the advertisement, the advertisement identifier, or the location identifier. The mobile device may scan (e.g., periodically scan) and/or receive a radio identifier. The radio identifier may be received via a short range signal. A watchdog component (e.g., a watchdog function), running on the mobile device may compare the received radio identifier with the location identifier. If the received radio identifier matches the location identifier, the watchdog function may send a message to the advertisement server.

  • Patent number: 10701318
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for augmented reality multi-view telepresence. An exemplary embodiment is provided for a first-location participant and a second-location participant, each location having respective pluralities of cameras and display segments. A session geometry of a multi-location telepresence session is obtained for the participants. According to the session geometry, a selection is made of a first-to-second-viewpoint second-location camera from among the second-location cameras and a first-to-second-viewpoint first-location display segment from among the plurality of first-location display segments. A first-to-second-viewpoint video stream captured by the selected first-to-second-viewpoint second-location camera is received, and a line-of-sight augmented-reality session is generated by rendering the received first-to-second-viewpoint video stream via the selected first-to-second-view-point first-location display segment.

  • Patent number: 10692296
Abstract: The quality of service one may expect from a given network is often hard to determine in advance. Further, given agreements between network service providers and a variety of content providers, the complexity inherent in selecting a given available network is increasing for consumers. Embodiments described herein provide mechanisms for creating an augmented reality presentation of networks and the service quality of those networks. The presentation may display information regarding a variety of factors including content transit agreements with content providers, quality-of-service or prioritization guarantees for certain types of content, or low-level Wi-Fi signal quality. These presentations allow users to ascertain where in a given spatial area good quality is available for whichever services they intend to use.

  • Patent number: 10681058
Abstract: Systems, methods, and/or techniques for mitigating attacks on an IoT device at a gateway device may be provided. The gateway device may receive a communication directed to an Internet of Things (IoT) device and forward it to the IoT device. The IoT device may indicate to the gateway device that the communication is associated with an attack and send the gateway device a sleep time period and a request to change a filtering rule set at the gateway device. The gateway device may change the filtering rule set and receive another communication directed to the IoT device. If the another communication is valid based on the filtering rule set with the change and a number of valid packets is less than a threshold, and the sleep time period has expired, the gateway device may send another communication to the IoT device.

  • Patent number: 10666664
Abstract: Systems and methods are described that permit social media users to delay posting social media updates to various social media recipients based on location privacy concerns. In one embodiment, a social media update created by a user is received. A location-based suggested time delay associated with a social media recipient is generated. The user is presented with the location-based suggested time delay, and a user-selected time delay is received. The social media update is sent to the social media recipient only after the user-selected time delay elapses.

  • Patent number: 10571547
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining positions of indoor localization beacons without requiring a physical site survey. In a coarse positioning method, a mobile node receives beacon signals that identify rooms (such as stores in a shopping mall) in which the beacons are located. The mobile node obtains floor plan information relating to the building and estimates beacon locations based on the floor plan and beacon signal strength. The estimated beacon locations may be arranged in a predetermined geometric pattern based on the number of beacons in a room. In a fine positioning method, a mobile node recognizes its proximity to a beacon and responsively measures the distance to other beacons. Estimated beacon positions may be used to estimate the location of the mobile node using trilateration or other techniques.
