Abstract: A heat resistant and heat sealable tear tape that can be used with a plastic package. The tear tape comprises a layer of an oriented film and a layer of a polymer sealant material. The polymer sealant has a melt temperature of below approximately 220° F. A plastic package can be made having a tear tape to provide a hermetically sealed package with a tear tape.

Abstract: Multilayer films and packaging structures having a delamination seal and an oxygen barrier layer are disclosed. The delamination structure adjacent to the EVOH oxygen barrier layer binds well to the EVOH layer and also retains its ability to delaminate. The multilayer films, and packages in which they are utilized, have several layers including a first, external layer; a second, tie layer comprising a mixture of polybutylene and an anhydride modified polyethylene such that a peelable bond is formed between said first, external layer and said second, tie layer; a third, core layer comprising ethylene vinyl alcohol which functions as an oxygen barrier layer; a fourth, tie layer comprising an anhydride modified polyethylene and a fifth, external layer.
Abstract: A plastic bottle comprises a label panel portion comprising a plurality of ribs extending annularly about the perimeter thereof and lands located between each rib for accepting a label thereon, wherein the ribs are configured to render the label panel substantially rigid and capable of enduring pasteurization without subjecting the lands to substantial alteration or misalignment. A pasteurizable bottle having a label panel onto which a label may be evenly secured is thus provided.
Abstract: Improved oxygen barrier and oxygen absorbing compositions and structures comprising blends of xylylene group-containing polyamides and cobalt octoate and xylylene group-containing polyamides, polyesters and cobalt octoate are disclosed and claimed. These blends have superior barrier properties and clarity obtained by controlling the degree of orientation and the amount of cobalt. These novel blends are used as single layers and as the core layer in multiple layer films, structures and articles. When used in multiple layer structures, the adjacent layers are comprised of polyesters and/or polyamides. The structures made from the blends of the present invention have a clarity that is superior to structures previously known in the art.

Abstract: The multilayer plastic container comprises a neck portion, a body portion, adjacent the neck portion, forming a cylindrical wall, and a bottom portion adjacent the body portion and opposite the neck portion. The cylindrical wall comprises a first layer of PET, a layer of EVOH adjacent the first layer of PET and a second layer of PET adjacent the layer of EVOH the EVOH has an average thickness which is greater near the neck portion of the container than near the bottom portion of the container.

Abstract: An injection apparatus comprises a recessed injection gate allowing cooling ducts to be run proximate thereto and an extended nozzle configured to extend to the recessed injection gate. The apparatus also comprises an insulating and sealing insert positioned adjacent to the injection gate locating it between the nozzle and the injection cavity during injection to thermally insulate the injection gate from the nozzle and to prevent melt material from leaking between the nozzle and the gate. The insert also accommodates variations in the nozzle sizes to assure a tight seal at each nozzle.
