Patents Assigned to Pennzoil Products Company
  • Patent number: 4849566
Abstract: Hydrocarbyl substituted cyclopentadienes, cyclopentenes, and cyclopentanes are synthetic lubricating compositions. The preferred structures contain 1 to 6 alkyl groups which have 4 to 36 carbon atoms and may have different and varying carbon chain structures. The cyclopentenes and cyclopentanes are prepared by hydrogenation from the corresponding cyclopentadiene intermediates. The cyclopentadienes are prepared by reaction with hydrocarbylating agents or alcohols. Mixtures are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4844829
Abstract: A pour point depressant for lubricating oils comprises a poly(methacrylate) polymer having the repeating unit ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl group having an average chain length in the polymer of 12.6 to 13.0, and n is an integer indicating the number of repeating units, the value of n being sufficient to provide a molecular weight of 10,000 to 300,000 for the polymer, the pour point depressant having the capacity to reduce the stable pour point to -35.degree. C., while being compatible with other additives such as viscosity index improvers.

  • Patent number: 4824589
Abstract: A rust converting composition comprises ascorbic acid, lignin sulfonate, and a water insoluble polymer, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone, and optionally a thickener. The invention further provides a method for removing rust from rusted metal surfaces by applying the composition, allowing the composition to remain on the rusted metal surface until substantially all of the rust is converted to a water soluble form, and removing the composition from the metal surface by washing with water.

  • Patent number: 4737305
Abstract: A dust suppressant composition comprising an aqueous solution of a dust suppressant comprising an ethoxylated alcohol and an ethoxylated alkyl phenol. The ethoxylated alcohol and ethoxylated alkyl phenol are preferably included in a weight ratio of about 1:3 to 3:1 and the dust suppressant is included in the aqueous solution in an amount of about 0.01 to about 1.0 weight percent. The composition is adapted for enhancing the settling of air-borne dust by spraying the composition in the dusty air.

  • Patent number: 4721823
Abstract: Hydrocarbyl substituted cyclopentadienes, cyclopentenes, and cyclopentanes are sythetic lubricating compositions.

  • Patent number: 4720555
Abstract: Hydrocarbons substituted with at least two anhydride moieties, are useful as dispersants in aqueous based hydraulic fluids and as curing agents in epoxy resins. These anhydrides are produced by reaction of a hydrocarbon derived from a soft wax or liquid hydrocarbon with a molar excess of an organic anhydride, preferably using a molar ratio excess of 3:1 to 8:1 of maleic anhydride, and under free radical conditions. The products are insoluble in the parent hydrocarbons.
