  • Patent number: 8623953
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to gels that flow through an orifice. Specifically the invention relates to gels that are dispensed through a trigger spray nozzle or aerosol spray valve. Still more specifically, the invention relates to nonaquious gels containing polymers whose instantaneous viscosity reversibly decreases when the gel experiences shear loads. The invention includes spray gel compositions, methods of making spray gels and methods of dispensing gels whose viscosity exhibits an instantaneous temporary decrease in viscosity when the gel is subjected to shear force as happens when it flows through an orifice, such as a spray nozzle or aerosol valve.

  • Patent number: 6881776
Abstract: Two-phase gel compositions are provided. The two-phase gel compositions are obtained by mixing a gelled ester composition comprising a mixture of an ester compound and a polymer compound selected from the group consisting of triblock copolymers, star polymers, radial polymers, multi-block copolymers, and a combination thereof and a hydrophobic, non polar solvent. The gelled ester composition has a viscosity ?1 and the solvent has a viscosity ?2. The two-phase gel composition is substantially free of phosphate compounds and has a viscosity ? which is greater than or equal to ?1 and which is greater than or equal to ?2. The two-phase gel compositions are also obtained by mixing a gelled ether composition, a gelled alcohol composition, a gelled naturally-occurring fat and oil composition or a combination thereof with a hydrophobic, non polar solvent. The two-phase gel compositions may be used to suspend various solids, liquids and/or gases.

  • Patent number: 6471731
Abstract: A polymeric candle which undergoes a phase transition from opaque to transparent when lit is described. Methods of making such candles also are described. The candle is formed from a candle composition which includes a wax and a polymeric material. The candle composition has a phase transition temperature of about 35° C. or higher. The candle composition is substantially opaque at a temperature below the phase transition temperature, whereas it becomes substantially transparent at or above the phase transition temperature. In addition to the wax and the polymeric material, the candle composition may further include a hydrocarbon oil or mixtures thereof, such as a white oil and/or a poly-&agr;-olefin.

  • Publication number: 20020022205
Abstract: A self-extinguishing candle and method of making the candle are described. The self-extinguishing candle comprises a candle body formed of a candle base material and a flame resistant block in contact with or attached to the candle body. The flame resistant block is capable of extinguishing the candle flame after the candle body is substantially consumed by the candle flame. The flame resistant block is formed of at least one flame resistant.
