Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for producing a continuous filament reinforced thermoplastic profile having consistent cross section. A continuous reinforcing filament is pre-wetted with a first thermoplastic resin and introduced into a die, where it is contacted with a second thermoplastic resin extruded from an extruder at melt state. The temperature of the die is carefully controlled so that the pre-wetted filament and first resin do not cure or solidify until after they have contacted and mixed with the second thermoplastic resin. The mixture temperature is then controlled to make a substantially solidified profile pre-shape. A capping layer comprising a third thermoplastic resin is then co-extruded onto the outer surface of the pre-shape. A multistage die for bringing together the filament and thermoplastic resins and for maintaining appropriate temperatures at each stage of the profile-forming process is also disclosed.

Abstract: A seal assembly includes a lip seal having an axis, a central opening and a radial extension extending radially inward. The radial extension may be adapted to apply a sealing force against a shaft extending through the central opening by bending. The radial extension may extend at least partially along an axial direction. A support member that is resilient may be positioned adjacent the radial extension such that the support member limits bending of the radial extension.
Abstract: An electronics package includes an electronic component having a light emitting diode (LED) and a protective case encapsulating the electronic component. An optical system is arranged between the electronic component and the protective case. The optical system is maneuvered to one of multiple positions via an actuator that is coupled to the optical system, where the actuator is accessible external to the protective case by the user of the electronics package. A first position of the optical system allows the light generated by the LED to be collected and/or controlled by the optical system. A second position of the optical system allows the light generated by the LED to be unaffected by the optical system. A third position of the optical system allows at least a portion of the light generated by the LED to be collected and/or controlled by the optical system and the remaining portion to be unaffected.
Abstract: A bushing can include a load bearing substrate having a first major surface, an adhesive film overlying the first major surface, and a friction reducing layer overlying the adhesive film. A method can include extruding an adhesive film, laminating a friction reducing layer to a load bearing substrate with the adhesive film therebetween to form a composite, and shaping the composite to form a bushing. The adhesive film can include a first adhesive layer, such as and a fluoropolymer layer. The adhesive layer can include a modified ethylene tetrafluoroethylene, and the fluoropolymer layer can include an ethylene tetrafluoroethylene.
Abstract: A brake caliper assembly comprising a housing including inlet and outlet ends collectively defining forward and rearward directions. The housing includes an abutting surface facing in the rearward direction and positioned closer to the inlet end than to the outlet end. A pad assembly includes an engaging surface in engagement with the abutting surface to thereby substantially prevent movement of the pad assembly in the forward direction. The outlet end of the housing is free from a feature that substantially prevents movement of the pad assembly in the forward direction. The pad assembly includes a base and a projection extending from the base in the rearward direction and defining the engaging surface. The outlet end of the pad assembly can include an alignment member extending in the forward direction and engaging the housing in a direction substantially perpendicular to the forward direction.
Abstract: A hand control assembly comprising a base, an actuating mechanism movable relative to the base, a hub pivotally coupled to the base and positioned to move the actuating mechanism, a lever arm pivotally movable relative to the hub for movement about a pivot axis, and an adjusting mechanism positioned between the lever arm and the hub and adapted to adjust a space between the lever arm and a handlebar. The adjusting mechanism includes a dial mounted for rotation about an adjusting axis angled relative to the pivot axis. The dial and the lever arm cooperatively define a dimension corresponding with the dial protruding from the lever arm, and it is preferred that this dimension does not change when the dial is rotated from a short-reach position to a long-reach position. The dial can be mounted for rotation about an adjusting axis that is offset from an engaging member.
Abstract: A vehicle steering assembly comprising an input member, an output member, and a torsion bar coupling the input member to the output member. The torsion bar includes primary and secondary load structures, and the secondary load structure is inoperative below a transition torque. The primary load structure includes a primary torque member that constantly couples the input member to the output member throughout an operative range of the steering assembly. The secondary load structure includes first and second torque members that are separated by a gap when the assembly encounters a torque below the transition torque and that contact each other when the assembly encounters a torque above the transition torque. The first torque member can comprise a tubular structure surrounding the primary torque member. The tubular structure includes an opening defining a circumferentially-exposed surface, and the second torque member includes a radially-extending arm positioned in the opening.
