Abstract: A chromic luminescent composition and method for fabricating the composition are disclosed. The chromic luminescent composition comprises at least one or more non-luminescent materials and one or more luminescent materials. The one or more non-luminescent materials having absorption spectra that at least partially overlap with the spectrum of incident electromagnetic radiation. The one or more luminescent materials convert at least a portion of energy of incident electromagnetic radiation to a lower energy wavelength. The one or more non-luminescent materials and the one or more luminescent materials are selected such that, when subsequently exposed to incident electromagnetic radiation, color and brightness are substantially modulated through absorption and emission as a function of incident electromagnetic radiation. Also disclosed are a chromic luminescent textile and a method for fabricating the textile.

  • Publication number: 20130288814
Abstract: A golf mat includes a frame having a central channel between left and right side shoulders. A hitting pad, such as an artificial turf pad, is slidable within or on the central channel. At least one elastic element, such as a rubber cord, extends laterally across the channel, and with the elastic element attached directly or indirectly to the artificial turf pad. Impact of the golf club head on the pad causes the pad to slide forward, absorbing impact forces and providing a feel to the golfer closer to hitting off of real grass. The elastic element decelerates the pad, and returns to the pad to its original position after the impact. The elastic element may be an elastic cord having plugged or knotted ends secured between inner and outer walls of the side shoulders of the frame.

  • Patent number: 8568898
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of making metal oxide and mixed metal oxide particles. The method includes treating a mixture formed from a metal source, such as metal alkoxide, a surfactant, and a first alcohol in an aqueous media at a very high metal oxide yield. The mixture is reacted using a catalyst to form metal oxide particles having a desired particle size in said mixture. The method is particularly suitable for forming silica particles. The metal oxide particles can then be heat treated to form synthetic fused metal oxides such as, for example, synthetic fused silica.
