Abstract: A method and device selectively and reversibly disrupts the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in a selected volume of the brain without the need for exogenous agents. The method and device employ low intensity directed ultrasound (LODUS) that is safe, reduces the danger of cavitation and thermal tissue damage, and is able to expose small or large regions of the brain to achieve a desired therapeutic or prophylactic effect.
