Abstract: A vandal and weather resistant sign is disclosed including a support plate having a plurality of regularly spaced rectangular openings and replaceable tiles carried by and fixed to the plate. The plate is adapted to be fixed to a mounting surface such as a utility pole or the like with the reverse face of the plate against the mounting surface. The tiles are fixed to the reverse face of the plate wherein indicia on the obverse face of the tile is visible through the plate openings. The edges of the tile are concealed and protected by the plate so as to make the tile edges less susceptible to attack by vandals.
Abstract: A color coded warning label in which the color code has a removable opaque coating and the label is provided with a self-laminating flap for protecting the removable coating prior to use and for making the code permanent during use is described. A method for using the color coded label to quantify the level of a hazard is also described.

Such data-tags are readily assembled by hand and are useful as warning signs in an industrial environment.

Abstract: Self-laminating data-tags having a polyester substrate coated with a pencil receptive writing surface and a non-conducting reinforcer are obtained. Provisions are made for protecting the writing surface, replicating the data and removing the data-tag. Such data-tags are particularly useful as warning tags for utility equipment and in severe environmental conditions.
Abstract: The invention is directed to an improved method for making a porcelain enamel tag or sign. The process involves forming a single white porcelain enamel base coat over a suitable metal backing, and firing to bond the porcelain enamel to the metal, resulting in the formation of a porcelain coated metal blank. The blank is then coated with a photographic emulsion which contains a colored frit. The emulsion coating is allowed to dry, and is then ready to receive a printed image. The desired image or graphic to be reproduced is formed on a light transmitting backing, which is made in the form of a print. The print is then affixed to the porcelain enamel blank which contains the emulsion overcoating. The blank containing the image on its surface is then exposed to a source of activating radiation. Following exposure, the image containing blank is developed in a warm aqueous solution, whereby the water serves to develop the emulsion mixture.
